noscript preventing yahoo and youtube videos from playing

Post by Frodo »

Starting in the past week, I have been unable to view many videos in Firefox that are viewable without issues in Chrome and IE. I've narrowed it down to noscript and am forced to disable noscript completely to watch these videos. Telling noscript to allow the entire page does nothing to help.

I've cleared all history, cache ... and also reinstalled Firefox before realizing that noscript appears to be the culprit.

Any suggestions?

Can you see any error message?
Could you point the pages which don't work, exactly?

Here's one:

When I hit play it says Oops. video not available. If I disable noscript and restart firefox, the video plays as normal. I don't particularly care about that video, but it is one of many I've run across this past week or so that simply won't play in firefox.

Another example is the following page:

With noscript enabled the youtube video won't even display. I've had many other issues with non white backgrounds where there's a white block where the youtube video should be. Again, disabling noscript and restarting firefox displays the video window and allows playback.

This one is broken on clean Firefox and Chrome for me.
This one works fine for me with NoScript, just clicking on the placeholder.
Did you try on a clean profile with just NoScript enabled?
If it works that way for you, could you try Standard Diagnostic to spot a possible conflict with another extension?

The first link works fine for me in chrome, but I don't believe that noscript is running in chrome for me.

It seems odd that the video will play if noscript is disabled, I'm not sure what noscript would be blocking.

I haven't seen any issues like this until the past week or so, possibly from a noscript patch?

Youtube mysteriously stopped working for me today, too, but I don't think it's NoScript -- I disabled it and youtube still doesn't work.

I've also had a problem with viewing videos. I thought it was the Adobe plugin but it is definitely NoScript. I was having difficulty across multiple sites, In particular Hulu and any embedded video on Facebook. Both were trusted sites.

To troubleshoot, I disabled all plugins and extensions and tried playing a video on Hulu. Of course I had to enable flash. The video played flawlessly. Once I enabled NoScript, I received error messages saying the video could not be played. Disabling NoScript seemed to take care of the problem.

This problem is relatively new for me. Everything was running fine until approximately 4 days ago. That is just about the time I upgraded to Firefox 3.6.15.
I tried rolling back to a previous version of FF, but to no avail. I'm going to do a reinstallation of NoScript and see how that impacts the situation.

I had same problem. Anyone using ZoneAlarm as your protection suite? Turning off the ZoneAlarm recently added "browser security" function (with a reboot) fixed YouTube. If NoScript had anything to do with it the problem must have been an interplay with ZoneAlarm. (I certainly do NOT recommend doing without NoScript.)

Youtube stopped working with white text on black background "An error occurred. ..." after I upgraded Firefox 3.6.13 to 3.6.15, although simply restarting with v3.6.13 continued to work. I had NoScript 2.0.1 installed for both Firefox versions.

I got youtube videos working again by upgrading to NoScript 2.0.9.9
