Status Bar Message

Post by walri »

Hello,

Normally, the noscript icon in the status bar has a short message next to it saying things like "Scripts Partially Allowed..." etc.

Recently that message has disappeared. The noscript icon is still there, and the extension still works great, just the message is gone. If I go into Options>Notifications and choose "Show message about blocked scripts" I can see the message but it appears in the small yellow notification window (like when firefox blocks a popup, for example). If there is some way to get the status bar message back, I would really appreciate some help.

I don't recall which update made it go away, but it was sometime within the last 2 weeks or so.

I have tried resetting the noscript settings but it did not work. I'm using Firefox 3.6.13 and Noscript 2.0.9.2. I also have Adblock Plus 1.3.3, which also places an icon in the status bar, but in the past they have both coexisted just fine. Relocating the ABP icon to the toolbar and removing it from the status bar did not work.

Thank you for your time, any help will be appreciated!

Sorry, but it has been removed on purpose because:
  1. It is incompatible with Firefox 4, where the status bar no longer exists
  2. It was already disabled by default, therefore almost nobody used it
  3. It took too much space statically, for the value it gave
  4. The same information is provided by the notification bar

Giorgio,

I think it's a pity that you removed it.

True, but there is the add-on bar instead.
[*]It was already disabled by default, therefore almost nobody used it
Hm - I can't speak for other NS users but I used it and disabled the notification bar instead.
[*]It took too much space statically, for the value it gave
[*]The same information is provided by the notification bar[/list]
But the notification bar consumes space. Yes, you can make it vanish after x seconds in the settings, but this means that the info about blocked items is also gone.

Please consider to bring this feature back.

Greetings

Thomas

Same here. I thought the status bar gave it a "cleaner" look compared to the regular yellow notifications.

Oh well. Thank you for letting me know anyways!

Sorry, I wasn't aware it had so many fans.
Please notice that the notification bar (and the status bar label which replicates the same info) was mostly meant for newbies, in order to make them dramatically aware of what was going on with some stats.
I actually have both disabled, and never missed them, because almost the same amount of information is provided by the toolbar icon itself, which tells you whether scripts are allowed, forbidden or partially allowed, and if there are blocked embedded objects.

I'm a fan too of the message in the statusbar
# It took too much space statically, for the value it gave
Thats the most valuable feature of the status bar message.
You don't have to click the small noscript icon in the statusbar too enable some of the scripts, but can click on the whole message.

Hi giorgio, i have been using noscript for more than four years, and i have always had the statusbar icon enabled. The thing is that i use the Vimperator extension (now using pentadactyl instead), and i have all the bars hidden except the status bar. So there is no way for users of these extensions in particular to see noscript's status, as we have the location bar hidden. so if you could please restore the status bar icon back, then it would be really great for us.

Hello, i am a fan of the statusbar label too, now my statusbar is blank without it...:( I think its a good idea to clean up the bloated stuff in the noscript extansion a little, but like gt says, its a minimalistic option and it was useful for keyboard and statusbar users, like me.

I really like the statusbar label which has been deleted ..
.. So I have to use an old version (2.0.8.1) to be able to instantly know what's being blocked

keep it up with this great addon btw !

Hi.
Is there any solution yet to this please?
I am seriously considering downgrading to v2.0.8 due to the missing status label.
Turn it off by default if you want, but atleast allow the option to turn it on for those who so wish.
A question: why does toggling the about:config entry "noscript.statusLabel" from FALSE to TRUE not having any effect?
I am using FF 3.6.13.
Thanks.
