'Options' menu opens very slowly
'Options' menu opens very slowly
Hello,
recently I've run into the following problem. NoScript's 'Options' window opens VERY slowly
as well as its reaction to any action is also VERY slowly. It may take up to 20 seconds
for the window to open, and it takes several seconds for the 'Options' window to react
to any activity - selecting a tab or pressing a button, etc. At the same time the 'About NoScript'
window opens normally (quickly).
I'm using NoScript v2.0.8.1 on SeaMonkey 2.0.10. I've tried creating a new profile with the default
set of add-ons/extensions and with the default theme and installed only NoScript. The problem still
persists.
I remember some time ago (a few months may be) it worked just fine. Unfortunately I do not remember
what versions of SeaMonkey/NoScript I was using. Then both SeaMonkey and NoScript updated
several times each. And finally I noticed this strange problem.
Does anyone know how to resolve it?

Re: 'Options' menu opens very slowly
One hint. Today I've had a chance to compare NoScript v1.9.9.87 against NoScript v2.0.8.1
on a computer running Windows XP sp3 + all the updates. Originally I had SeaMonkey v2.0.10
with NoScript v1.9.9.87. It worked just fine and its 'Options window opened very quickly
(without any delays). After that I used SeaMonkey's Add-On Manager and updated NoScript
to the latest version v2.0.8.1. After restarting SeMonkey I immediately tried to open the
'Options' window and it took about 7 seconds!!! So, it seems to be a problem of the more/most
recent versions of NoScript. May be starting v2.0?
Could you please give me a piece of advice about how to resolve it?

Could you further narrow the version change?

Hello Giorgio,
with version 2.0.1 th problem still persists. Could you please point me where I can
download older versions, like 1.9.xxx or just send one to me. I also noticed that
while the 'Options' window is opening the processor activity increases from 5-10%
till 40-50%. And as soon as the window appear it drops to the previous level.

OK, with version 1.9.9.99 the window opens just fine. Almost without any delay.
And it reacts to any activities just fine. So the problem appeared in version 2.0.1

Could you further narrow between 1.9.9.99 and 2.0.1 by using http://noscript.net/feed?c=100&t=a ?

Re: 'Options' menu opens very slowly
Haven't been around much, & only half-way read the OP's post.
Didn't realize that he was speaking of the "Options" menu window, rather then simply the NoScript icon "options".
Once I realize, I can now confirm.
The Options menu is slow to open.
(If I can make some time, I go through versions ...)

noscript-1.9.9.99.xpi works better ...
noscript-2.0.xpi is slow ...
noscript-2.0rc2.xpi is slow, & that is the first 2.0 build (not seeing an rc1).
Oh, & I'm on the Branch, so SeaMonkey 2.0.11.
Ditto with SeaMonkey 2.0.8.
Have to assume, that somewhere along the line, since 2.0, that I've opened Options, & that I would have noticed this - as it is obvious.
So does that point to a change in SeaMonkey?
Does the same happen on FF 3.5.x branch?

I can reproduce on Fx 3.5.16 (latest 3.5.x) + NS 2.0.8.1.
Turning off (Windows) Display, Hardware acceleration:, made no difference.
Can duplicate on the 1.9.1 branch on an Intel E4300 & Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440, & on an AMD Sempron 3000 (a real powerhorse) with onboard video, VIA UniChrome IGP.
Problem does not occur on the Trunk (2.0b7pre).
About NoScript... pops up immediately.
All done with totally empty Profiles, other then adding NoScript.
(In a regular Profile, Adblock Plus Preference opens without incident.)

Even after Options is open, there is a noticeable delay when clicking from one tab to another.

Re: 'Options' menu opens very slowly
Opening Options results in a CPU spike to 50%.
Clicking on Option tabs causes spikes to about 30% CPU.

version 1.10, which you referred to as 2.0rc1, is much slower than 1.9.9.99.Giorgio Maone wrote:Could you further narrow between 1.9.9.99 and 2.0.1 by using http://noscript.net/feed?c=100&t=a ?
On my home computer 'Options' window for 1.9.9.99 opens in less than a second.
for 1.10, 2.0rc2 and more recent it takes 15-20 seconds to open, high CPU load
while the window is opening as well as high CPU load and a few seconds for
switching between tabs
