I've noticed this problem for a little while now, and I've confirmed that it's noScript related: whenever I load up gmail for the first time, it hangs at the main window for about 10 to 15 seconds while it says "Loading..." at the top of the screen. I can see all of the messages; the only thing that doesn't appear to be loading are the star icons. After the wait, they appear and everything moves quickly and normally.
I've disabled noScript and the problem disappears, so it's definitely that.
I've added all of google.com to my whitelist, but if I have noScript enabled it still causes the problem, even with google on the whitelist. Is there any other way to authorize an entire domain?

Re: GMail loading problem
Since this is not widely reported, and I cannot reproduce either, it might be an interaction between NoScript and another extension.
Could you try Standard Diagnostic while keeping NoScript enabled?
