Forum Topics Not Reloading After Posting

This is a "just to point out" kind of post, cause no real specifics other then I've observed incorrect behavior.

A few times recently now I have noticed (at various) Forums, Topics Not Reloading After Posting.
Like something to do with tabnaXXing (tabnapping).
Perhaps some relatively recent change?

I also do have blocking of META redirections ... enabled.

Most typically this would have (not happened) after posting, then immediately jumping away - momentarily, then jumping back. Would have expected the topic to reload after posting but it did not.

So nothing special at that forum.
I do not allow voidtools.com.

After it did not reload, I entered a new post (since deleted), remained at the page, & the page reloaded as expected.

Do you mean you're blocking META refreshes? In Firefox, in NoScript, or both?
Doesn't the post reload some seconds after you jump back?

In NoScript, META redirections inside <NOSCRIPT> elements.

Right. That is the expected result. But on a few odd times now, different boards, that has not happened.
Hasn't happened enough, or consistently, for me to really take notice of anything, other then to say to myself, hey, that doesn't seem right. But now it's happened a few times. And the last, after the page did not reload, I specifically posted another post just to see if it did or did not. And with that second post, it did. So some sort of quirk, somewhere, seems to be going on.

I might have an idea.

13 times (over a period of time, I believe), that message appeared in Error Console.
Finally, after posting this message, & returning to the thread, I saw it refresh.

PS: I have noscript.forbidBGRefresh.exceptions = .mozilla.org

Is this logging normal - if you don't provide focus for a period of time? Cause I got one here too, though it did refresh on return (focus).

Forum page display blown up, 200%, laid out as per pic.
Click Submit.
Immediately jump away, another window.

See if message isn't logged.
Jump back, but again immediately jump away, another window.
Again see if message isn't logged.
At some point, you'll miss it (the jump away that is) & the page will refresh, & logging will stop.

Now that (the Zoom) is not going to be entirely the reason, if it is at all. Might just be the quick jumps away.
Page has lost focus before forbidBGRefresh delay has been satisfied or something like that, & in conjunction with the (normal website) board delay in affecting the refresh after a post.


(Seem to recall, though I don't recall what it was, <does that make any sense?> but other issues with zoomed pages too. Was it right-click context menu & FlashGot opening, spawning a FlashGot operation <or other action occurring>.)





Note the enlarged scrollbars. Known issue with certain themes.

Now that is part of the issue.

And likely for the same or similar reasons, there have been the times where the page did not refresh at all. The mozillazine post I made that prompted today's comments was like that (but then did eventually refresh).

Looking briefly, I am not seeing this on a faster computer, on a faster Internet connection. (Also now on Trunk instead of 2.0.6 Release.)

Faster & faster, but a slower board.
On virtually every post, getting one entry in Error Console.
In most cases the pages did refresh in a timely fashion. In one case, there was an extended delay before it refreshed.

Zoom not likely an issue in this case. (Though I do have It set to 110% for voidtools.com, by virtue of NoSquint).
I would post, immediately jump to another thread, likely post that thread, then jump back, at which time the page would refresh on focus. EC message in the interim.

I would post, immediately jump to another thread, likely post that thread, then jump back, at which time the page would refresh on focus. EC message in the interim.

This is exactly how it is supposed to work.
These forums usually delay the refresh by 2 or 3 seconds.
If you immediately switch to another tab, by the time the original tab refreshes it is unfocused, therefore NoScript defers the refresh until the tab is in sight again, in order to prevent tabnapping.

I understand all that. That is not the issue.

My point is that there have been these odd times when pages would not refresh at all.

Then there is the Error Console logging. That doesn't concern me at all, just pointing out.

Except with my post of the 17th, there were 13 EC messages, all dealing with the same thread, which had not refreshed. And as it was, each time I jumped from & back to that page, another EC message was generated.

And yesterday (looks like it was today actually) every post made at voidtools.com generated an EC message. That is unexpected. ... Let me try & duplicate that one ...

The pages are refreshing as expected, though EC messages are being generated. I would think you should be able to duplicate that.

Most every action I take there, generates a message.

Again, with an action, I click the Submit button, then jump away, then jump back a number of seconds later. The page refreshes when focus returns, expected, but there also is an accompanying EC message, unexpected. (And then there was this one post yesterday, for which the refresh to an extended period of time before anything happened.)

Again the EC message don't concern me, though whether & when something is logged seems irregular.

PS: 2.0.3rc4, but this appears regular now for me, as in not refreshing (at all). Think it's the only forum I've been on today, so don't know if it happens elsewhere?

(strange. tried a different forum & it worked. came back here & worked here too. yet 3 or so times in succession, it did not work here - even without changing page focus.)

The refreshing thing may be caused by some extension or GM script fiddling with focus? Does it happen on a clean profile?

Other extensions have remained static.

This occurred on my older, slower computer, slower Internet connection (DSL).

It was a number of times, in succession, on this forum. Pages simply did not refresh after posting.
Neither post, jump away & return, nor post & stay - no refresh.

Then after visiting/posting in another forum (where it worked), then this forum too worked.
