Google Toolbar WordTranslate not working

Post by icemocha4my »

I run into an issue with Google Toolbar WordTranslate function. After I install NoScript, the function "Translate word by hovering over them" no longer work. I try to clean the cookies and cache method and add "file://" into WhiteList methods but still not work. Does anyone have any suggestion?

Thanks!!

Here is my environment:
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise
Google Toolbar: 7.1.20100408Wb1
NoScript: 1.9.9.87
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 GTB7.1

I have the same problem. Play around with all the different options and none help. Uninstall the plugin and it's back in business. I really like this plug in, but for a non-English user, I really want to use the wordTranslate feature came with Google toolbar whenever I am stuck with certain word. Hope there is a solution soon.

I have the same problem for months. (My Current Config : Firefox 3.6.6 on XPSP3,
I have been suing Google Toolbar for this annoyance, but today I just realized that NoScript is the source of the problem! Disabling NoScript solves the problem :(
I think in order to solve this permanently, we have to find exactly which web addresses used by word translator to add to NoScript's WhiteList and XSS rules, or any other settings NoScript have.

Same here
I needed a while to find out though, that deactivating NoScript frees the Google instant translation. Even the context menu does not work otherwise.
I also tried to add the Google Toolbar Script in ABE from the FAQ without success!

Google's toolbar Word translation stopped working after Google Toolbar for Firefox Version 7.1.20100701W.
This version changed the look of the translation tooltip by including an image, a link to "disable" and formating it with another background color.
WordTranslation is working OK up to Google's Toolbar for Firefox Version 7.0.20100326W where the tooltip looks more like Internet Explorer's being yellowish, and text only.
Hope to be of some help for developers or someone who may share a workaround tip.

Not for me... (FF 3.6.8 with NoScript 2.0).
The weird thing is, that you need to disable NoScript rather than just enable all scripts to make it work again.

Known problem due to a change in google cookies. Just once, delete all your google cookies.
- Select Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
- Click the Show Cookies button
- Search on google.com, select the cookies, click Remove Cookie

Dear Alan Baxter,

It still won't work after I clear all Google cookies. Any hints?

I'm using Fx 3.6.8 with NoScript 2.0.1rc1. I am not using the Google Toolbar.
I was able to duplicate the problem in my profile that has 62 extensions, including NoScript. The problem persisted after I deleted all the cookies from google.com and its subdomains. The problem disappeared after I deleted all the google cookies a second time.

I'm unable to duplicate the problem in a test profile that has no extensions.
I'm unable to duplicate the problem in a test profile that has only NoScript installed with its default settings.
I'm unable to duplicate the problem in a test profile that has NoScript and Google Toolbar installed.

Ideas:
1) You may have an extension conflict. To find the conflicting extension, do the following:
- Create a new profile.
- Install the latest development version of NoScript.
- If a problem is evident in this simple configuration, then it's not an extension conflict. Report it to NoScript Support.
- Add any other extensions you are using. Add one extension at a time.
- After each extension is added, see if any problems have been introduced by its addition.
- If you've found a problem, then you've also found the conflicting extension. Report your test results to NoScript Support.
- If you've gone through the preceding procedure without experiencing a problem, then any problem appears to be solved.
- If you want to continue using this profile that doesn't have a problem, you can transfer your data and settings from your old profile to the new one.

2) General Troubleshooting
Update NoScript to the most recent development build at http://noscript.net/getit#devel, then try these steps, in order, until NoScript is working right again.

- If you have any Firefox extensions called HP Smart Web Printing, Skype, .NET Framework Assistant, or McAfee Site Advisor, then uninstall or disable them. They're buggy and known to cause problems with the status bar icon.

- The NoScript settings became messed up somehow. Reset the NoScript Options by pressing Reset at the bottom of the Options dialog. Export your whitelist before doing that if you've added any trusted or untrusted sites you'd like to restore after NoScript is working again.

- The extensions database is corrupted. Exit Firefox, delete the files mentioned here in this linked article, restart Firefox. Uncorrupted versions of the files will be automatically regenerated. Corrupt_extension_files

- There might be an extension conflict. Use the Add-ons manager to temporarily disable any other Firefox extensions you have installed, except for NoScript.

- Perform a Standard Diagnostic. If NoScript isn't working by the time you get to the "Create a new profile" step, a new profile with no other extensions besides NoScript should work right.

Hope this helps. Please let us know whether it does.
