Confused Newbie

Post by Floob »

Hi,

I like the idea of noscript as it improves security when I browse to some websites. Personally, I'm not so bothered about the anonymity side of things.

Could someone clarify this image?
Image
I see it has allowed 2 of 4 scripts - but how do I find out which scripts it has blocked? And what does the 42 mean by Scripts?

Also, would it be viable to allow scripts globally, but then specify some sites I dont want scripts to run on?

Sorry for daft questions, but I like the tool and would like to get the most from it.

Thanks for any pointers,

Floob.

Click on the "Options" button (or on the NoScript icon on your status bar): in the menu that will be opened, the "Forbid ..." items are about sites which are currently allowed, the "Allow ..." items are about sites which are currently blocked.

42 <SCRIPT> means that there are 42 <SCRIPT> HTML elements, i.e. pieces of HTML code which import or define JavaScript code (it gives an approximate idea of the "amount" of scripting used on the page).

Yes it is, but it's much less safe because you can't tell in advance whether you're gonna land on a malicious page.
However, even in "Globally allowed" (blacklist) mode, NoScript gives you protection against XSS, intranet CSRF, Clickjacking, HTTPS bypasses and other web-based attacks.
