And if so, why it would show, is another question.

I have absolutely no idea. The "<" and ">" bother me as well …

I'd guess it's just a server side bug.
Could you open the page's source and look for the "cfoutput" string?

I don't have it in my current Firefox version … it might be a bug from NoScript in the Firefox 4 Beta.

This. If ColdFusion was working on their server as it should, your browser would never see the <cfoutput> tag.
