Says "Scripts Partially Allowed", but shouldn't?

Post by Cassius »

I've noticed on a couple pages (verydemotivational.com and rlslog.net in particular) the status bar says "Scripts Partially Allowed" even though I haven't allowed anything. The icon is Image, which I don't know the meaning of (it's not on the features page on the Noscript website with the other icons). For example, verydemotivational.com says in the status bar:

Scripts Partially Allowed | <Script>: 67 | <Object>: 10 (same thing on the other page, just different numbers next to Script and Object)

even though (when I right click the icon), I haven't allowed anything and "Blocked Objects" even lists all 10 objects.

What's going on? Is the addon malfunctioning and allowing stuff through, or is it an error with the status bar?

Just upgraded to 3.6.4, didn't notice that before, but it didn't fix the problem. And I've noticed it on several other sites as well, so it's not limited to just one or two sites.

Third post, as I'm figuring things out. Tried playing with settings one-by-one, seems this bug/problem is linked with using the "Forbid <IFRAME>" setting, and happens on any page with IFRAMES. If I uncheck "Forbid <IFRAME>", using the example I used above, it turns from

Scripts Partially Allowed | <Script>: 67 | <Object>: 10

into

Scripts Currently Forbidden | <Script>: 77 | <Object>: 0

When the setting is checked, the IFRAMES are indeed getting blocked, there's the placeholder for them and everything. It just doesn't make sense to me about the change from "Scripts Currently Forbidden" to "Scripts Partially Allowed".

I know, the message is a bit misleading in this case. Problem is, for historical reasons, some places of NoScript's UI say "Scripts" when they should use a more generic term, including plugin content and iframes, if they're restricted, such as "Active content"...

Well, as long as nothing is getting through even though it says "Scripts Partially Allowed", it's all good.

On a side note, what does Image actually mean?

  1. Blue S (vs. white) - page has scripts
  2. Large red forbidden sign - domain of the root page is not whitelisted
  3. Small orange jigsaw puzzle piece - some blocked embeddings (iframes, plugins)

Sort of offtopic:
Some sort of documentation would be nice, how about creating a wiki for such things?
