Uninstalling NoScript

Post by redwolfe_98 »

i read the faq about uninstalling noscript, where you open FF's "addons" and run the uninstall from there, however, when i did that, it didn't seem to remove any of the noscript files, in "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xyz.default\extensions\{73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}".. running the uninstall removed "nsocript" from the list of "addons", in FF's "addons", but it didn't seem to actually remove any noscript files..

i think there should be better instructions for manually uninstalling noscript, like what files and folders should be deleted in order to manually uninstall noscript.. all that is said is "run the uninstall from "addons" or "if noscript does not appear in addons, you have a corrupted profile"..

i was uninstalling noscript build 1.9.9.87 because of the problem where FF's back-button would not work when viewing webpages at the nytimes.com website.. i reinstalled noscript build 1.9.9.81 instead, which doesn't have the same problem..

i kind of goofed when i was uninstalling noscript build 1.9.9.87.. when i was deleting the noscript files in one user account, i went ahead and deleted them from another user account, as well, without first running the uninstall, while running FF in the particular user-account.. after having had deleted the noscript files in the particular user account, in "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xyz.default\extensions\{73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}", noscript no longer appeared in FF's "addons", so i couldn't run the uninstall from there..

so, is deleting the noscript files in "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xyz.default\extensions\{73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}" the proper way to manually uninstall "noscript"? is that all that is needed in order to manually uninstall noscript?

Nope, you should also manually manage chome de-registration, which is not trivial.
In other words, you should really use the extension manager to install/uninstall extensions. If it fails, please file a bug report in Mozilla's bug tracker.

thanks giorgio.. to try to resolve the "problem", running FF in the particular user-account, i updated noscript from build 1.9.9.81 to build 1.9.9.87 and then i ran the uninstall, from FF's "addons", along with deleting the noscript files in "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xyz.default\extensions\{73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}" that were leftover, after having run the uninstall from FF's "addons".. then i reinstalled build 1.9.9.81..

hopefully that saved me the burden of having to completely uninstall FF and then reinstalling it, in order to straiten out the "chome de-registration" bit..
