Can Flashgot extract the flv content of swf files?

Post by losepete »

Hi

I've only just bumped into FlashGot and thought it may cure the lack of current Flash plugin available for my operating system - the current plugin is Flash7 for Windows, pretending to be Flash9, which operates on my non-Windows system by using a wine-like "wrapper".

I do have a choice of media players capable of playing FLV files, mplayer (with smplayer gui) and vlc (videolan).

I had hoped that FlashGot could capture and download the FLV content that is wrapped by the SWF filename on sites such as youtube but that does not seem to be the case. Is that correct or have I missed a setting somewhere?

Regards

Pete

FlashGot can see Youtube's media (though some may be protected?).

Though your browser must be able to at least start the playback of the media.
So if Youtube is saying that you need Flash (player), then playback has not been initiated, so FlashGot (Media) will not see anything.

If the video is playing on Youtube, FlashGot Media should see it & then should be able to pass its URL to your download manager for download.
What download manager are you using?

Hi

Well, looks like the problem is the lack of Flash10 plugin as Flash7 does not seem to work with youtube these days.

Interestingly youtube gives no message about needing a later Flash. I have FlashBlock installed and clicking the play button simply delivers a black/blank playback window.

I have discovered alternative software, FlashRip, that can download video from youtube without needing to start playback though so my needs are covered by that software.

Thanks
