Forcing HTTPS requires a page refresh

Post by Lawand »

Hello,
I want to force using HTTPS with all Facebook pages, so I added the expression "*facebook.com" (without the quotes) to the first box in the HTTPS tab of NoScript settings.
And now whenever I open a Facebook page I notice that the non-secure HTTP page opens and I have to hit the refresh button to get the corresponding secure HTTPS page (meaning that NoScript only changes the address of the page without navigating to the new secure address).

Is this a normal behavior of NoScript?, because I remember using NoScript a long time ago and that it used to open HTTPS pages directly.
And if this is how NoScript handles forcing HTTPS, then is there a workaround?

Thanks in advance.

The syntax of the pattern should be either "*.facebook.com facebook.com" or just ".facebook.com" (without quotes, the two syntaxes are equivalent).
With ".facebook.com" I don't need any refresh.
If the problem persists for you, could you check whether disabling all the other extensions of yours help? If it does, please try Standard Diagnostic.

Thanks for your reply,
I tried the pattern ".facebook.com", then tried disabling all other Addons, but in both cases I still need to refresh.

Are you using any proxy?

No proxy (direct connection), although I believe that there is a transparent proxy installed at my ISP (after all, the reason I want to force HTTPS is that Facebook is blocked in my country, but I can access it using HTTPS...)

So are you getting an empty page before refreshing it?

I get an almost empty page, this is what it contains:

Code: Select all

<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">
<!--
body {
	font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	color: #FFFFFF;
	font-size: 0px;
}
-->
</style>
</head>

<BR clear="all">
<HR noshade size="1px">

That's really weird, but definitely related to your proxy (the empty page you quoted comes from a Squid proxy).
I guess the only effective way to check what's going would be you setting a VPN for me to "move" behind your proxy...
