I'm running Firefox 3.6.3, latest version of noscript that's automatically served, on windows XP. Just moved from Mcafee to Norton viruscan.
In the process, firefox will not start most of the time. Looks like its a process not terminating properly. I did a clean install of firefox, it loaded fine. Now I'm loading my extensions back in. Noscript is the first, because its so useful. Looks like its the problem too, as the problem seems to have re-occurred.
So it seems like there is some bug between noscript, firefox, and Norton which stops firefox processes from ending. (I can force the restart of firefox by manually stopping the firefox process in windows task manager, so it seems pretty clear the process is the issue)
I also got some script errors relating to noscript at startup just now - no idea what they mean, as first time I've seen them.
Thanks for all help - this is the limit of my tech knowledge...

Also on Windows XP but with a different Virus proggie, I had similar experience as yours. Firefox would hang and I would have to close it. On attempting to reopen it, it would say that there was already a firefox process running. Windows Task Manager would show a firefox.exe process but was unable to close it. I would have to reboot the system several times a day.
I tried running Firefox in safe mode and all was well with no extensions or addons so I started adding them back in and also found that it was Noscript that was the culprit.
I downloaded the development build avaliable here
http://noscript.net/getit#devel
and so far so good.

I doubt it's NoScript, more likely an application "hooking" the Firefox process (could be malicious or not).
BTW: Some days ago a patch was added to Firefox trunk which gave Fx shutdown a huge speed boost.

Seems like its noscript as the problem goes away when noscript goes away. On this computer I'm running Firefox 3.5.9 with no issues with noscript. Also holding off on installing Norton.
Firefox 3.6.3 seems a lot buggier.
system has been scanned by updated Norton - doesn't mean there is nothing malicious on there, but seems low likelihood.
