NoScript + Lastpass + Readability/TidyRead = Firefox crash
NoScript + Lastpass + Readability/TidyRead = Firefox crash
If I have both NoScript and LastPass enabled and use the Readability bookmarklet, then Firefox crashes. If I disable either one of them Readability works fine.
The same happens if I use the TidyRead bookmarklet (from here: http://www.tidyread.com/widget.html not main page).
I've even tested this on a clean profile with everything on default, it still crashes. Same with XP Mode (Virtual Machine).
The weird thing is, reverting either NoScript or Lastpass back one version resolves the problem. NoScript 1.9.9.50 and LastPass 1.64.4 does not have this issue.
So basically only the combination of the latest (stable) versions of both add-ons causes Firefox to crash whenever I click the Readability or TidyRead bookmarklet.
Using NoScript NoScript 1.9.9.57, LastPass 1.66.0, and Firefox 3.6.2 on Windows 7 64-bit Pro. Firefox is 3.6.0 on XP Mode.

Does the problem persist with latest development build as well?

Re: NoScript + Lastpass + Readability/TidyRead = Firefox cra
I continue to experience a Firefox crash when using the Readability bookmarklet even after updating to the latest NoScript build. I also have the LastPass addon installed. The crashing behavior continues after selecting "Allow All This Page" but the crashing behavior stops after selecting "Allow Scripts Globally". I'd be happy to do any additional testing, if needed.

What were you doing exactly when the crashes happened?
Could you paste links to your latest about:crashes entries here?

Re: NoScript + Lastpass + Readability/TidyRead = Firefox cra
Hi Giorgio,
Thanks for your reply. The crashes occur approximately 1 second after selecting the Readability bookmarklet that I have in my bookmarks toolbar except that the behavior appears to have changed (from the description in my prior post) after installing the latest NoScript build. Now, selecting "Allow All This Page" does allow the Readability bookmarklet to function correctly; that is, processing the webpage and returning a Readability formatted page of the webpage's text, and without crashing Firefox. However, if a webpage I am viewing is Forbidden by NoScript, then approximately 1 second after selecting the Readability bookmarklet while viewing such a page, Firefox crashes.
Here are links to 3 crash reports, all occurring with the latest NoScript build (1.9.9.61):
While viewing a USA Today article and selecting the Readability bookmarklet: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... b1e2100405
While viewing a New York Times article and selecting the Readability bookmarklet: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... b842100405
While viewing a Washington Post article and selecting the Readability bookmarklet: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... 5712100405
USA Today, New York Times, and Washington Post are all Forbidden within NoScript.
Let me know if there is any other information I can provide that may be helpful.

Re: NoScript + Lastpass + Readability/TidyRead = Firefox cra
FWIW I see the same behavior with the current version of Noscript and without LastPass. The AddOns I have are:
AdBlock Plus 1.1.3, FireFTP 1.0,7, FlashBlock 1.5.13, Forecastfox 0.9.10.2, Googlecal 0.5, IEView 1.4.5.1,
Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.1, Noscript 1.9.9.61, Sanitisminau 1.0, and XMarks 3.5.10.
No crash if I first click "Temp allow all this page" before clicking Readability button.
(Readability buttons code is :
javascript:(function(){readStyle='style-newspaper';readSize='size-large';readMargin='margin-wide';_readability_script=document.createElement('SCRIPT');_readability_script.type='text/javascript';_readability_script.src='http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readab ... ty.js?x='+(Math.random());document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(_readability_script);_readability_css=document.createElement('LINK');_readability_css.rel='stylesheet';_readability_css.href='http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readab ... print_css);})();

Does disabling all the extensions except NoScript help?Guest wrote:The AddOns I have are:

Re: NoScript + Lastpass + Readability/TidyRead = Firefox cra
No, even with ALL extensions except NoScript disabled I still get a crash unless I first click "Temp. allow all."
Note that this is a different behavior from earlier an version(s?) of NoScript in which those pages simply did nothing on clicking Readability
unless I authorized them with NoScript first.
I'll look at the Mozilla bug report/discussion.
Thanks,

Re: NoScript + Lastpass + Readability/TidyRead = Firefox cra
I've been having the same problem the last several days. As far as I can tell, it only involves NoScript and Readability. If I'm on any webpage where I haven't allowed scripts to run, Firefox crashes as soon as I click my Readability bookmarklet. This is as dependable as the sunrise. If I try again after allowing scripts to run, Readability functions as it should, and Firefox does not crash. I have the latest version of all three applications.

Re: NoScript + Lastpass + Readability/TidyRead = Firefox cra
Also experiencing this problem in latest trunk (Minefield).
Here are my steps to reproduce. This is with a new profile, with no other extensions other than NoScript.
1. Install NoScript 1,9.9.66 from https://secure.informaction.com/downloa ... 9.9.66.xpi
2. Add bookmarklet (add bookmark, paste in the following for location):
3. Visit http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/8618424.stm
4. Attempt to use Readability bookmarklet.
Crash report: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... 3c32100418
I also can reproduce this crash with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100413 Firefox/3.6.4

Working perfectly for me now too. I don't even have to select "Temporarily Allow All This Page" prior to using the Readability bookmarklet. Thanks for the update!
