Yes, because one of the ancestor element of the Flash object is hidden by ABP + EasyList (which I suppose you've got).
If you disable ABP, you should see the placeholder.

Under such circumstances is there a work around? So far ABP (atleast in my browsing)has never been an interference on the Flash types. If Networx detects it can it not substitute one ,overruling ABP albeit with a totally different KIND of a placeholder.
