[RESOLVED] NoScript blocked on install after last update

Post by Dracoth »

I've been using NoScript for the past year and a half or so. After the last update, I noticed that it was not working correctly. Adds weren't showing up, but there was no flash tag for them. The settings were identical to what I've always used. Yesterday, however, the adds were up in full force. I went to my Add-Ons and NoScript was highlighted and said (still does): "This add-on will be installed when Firefox is restarted". I've restarted FireFox manually. I've used the button. I've cancelled the install and reinstalled NoScript (both manually and using the direct add to Add-Ons on the download page). Apparently, there's nothing I can do to get this working. I miss the security I had before and would really like to get this back up.

I've also tried looking for my profile and settings, and they can't be found anywhere on my computer, which really strikes me as odd.

Computer info:

Microsoft XP Pro Service Pack 3
1 GB RAM
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+
Firefox 3.5.7
Latest NoScript version
AVG Antivirus 8.5.453
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091221 Firefox/3.5.7 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

That looks like an Add-Ons Manager corruption.

Could you try to follow the steps outlined in this article?

Also, if you've got an extension called " HP Smart Web Printing" please uninstall it: it's buggy and known to cause this problem.

OK, renamed the three files. When I started Firefox back up, NoScript still wasn't installed. All three files were created. Here's the log file for this latest restart:

I've looked in my extension folder and there are 3 {73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232} directories and a "-trash" directory as well. Could this be part of the problem?

Maybe, try to delete them while Firefox is not running.
Also, the "failed to back up" message in your log hints at some disk space or permission issue. Maybe with your temporary directory?

Thanks for the advice, but that's exactly what I did. I know you can't play with files that are actively being written to. I just tried it again, regardless, and the same thing occurred.

Could you try disabling all the other extensions and check if that helps?
If it does, please perform Standard Diagnostic.

Interesting.

When I disabled all of the active add-ons and restarted, FireFox came right back up. Checked the Add-On manager, and everything was exactly how it was before I disabled and restarted. I'm thinking something else might be corrupted on my computer.

I'm going to try reinstalling firefox completely and see what that does for me.

Rather than reinstalling Firefox (which usually serves no purpose), you'd probably better try http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... ew_profile
