When I allow JavaScript on a page for which it had not been allowed, there is a fairly substantial delay before Firefox becomes responsive again. What I would typically like to do is to look at some other tab while the page for which I allowed scripting is reloading; but it appears that the switch to the other tab cannot occur until well into the updating of the page for which permissions were changed. Is this effective lockout of other already-loaded tabs really necessary while the page reloads with changed permissions?
(Though I have this complaint, I must say that I am very appreciative of the protections NoScript offers.)

Re: A Complaint
Have you got a very long whitelist and/or a quite slow CPU?
Does the problem persist if you disable all the other add-ons? If this is the case, it could be an extension conflict and you should try Standard Diagnostic.

Not sure what constitutes "long". FWIW, mine has over 200 entries.Giorgio Maone wrote:Have you got a very long whitelist
Not modern; but not exactly slow: an AMD Athlon several years old. "1200"and/or a quite slow CPU?
I must say that I had presumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the delay was attributable to an exchange of information over the internet and that CPU speed would not bear on it. If there is some substantial computation occurring on my machine even before there is any attempt to communicate; then I suppose CPU speed could be relevant. However, one may still wonder why such a big computation would be required before reloading from a site from which one has just successfully loaded already and for which I don't think there was such a big delay on the first loading.
Yes.Does the problem persist if you disable all the other add-ons?
Good to know about that. Though such a conflict would not seem to bear on my delay issue, I'll keep the diagnostic in mind for other symptoms. I do use a lot of other extensions. (And now I must reenable a gob of them.If this is the case, it could be an extension conflict and you should try Standard Diagnostic.

Re: A Complaint
Did you manage to figure out what the problem was? I have what would be considered a relatively long list and I don't experience the delay and I noticed that several addons that run in the background like ForcastFox, Brief, FEBE and a few others often do slow things down a bit when happen to run at the same time as a function being carried out but this happens to everything, not just NoScript and tends to get compounded if you have AdblockPlus with many subscriptions or filters as well.
Anyhow, I know its been a while since you posted and I was wondering if you resolved your issue or figured out what was causing it and wanted to follow up. Let us know and if you have a solution we would appreciate sharing so we can all learn. Thanks.

Re: A Complaint
In retrospect, I think the problem was just an old slow computer. I upgraded to a computer with a 2-core 2.7GHz AMD Athlon and gobs of memory, and the problem disappeared. I also switched from Windows 98 to Windows XP, though I doubt that that had anything to do with it.GµårÐïåñ wrote:Did you manage to figure out what the problem was? ...
