FlashGot does not work with latest BitComet 1.17

I think the title says all. The latest version of BitComet ( http://www.bitcomet.com ) 1.17 does not work with latest flashgot avaivlable on AMO.

I only use Orbit Downloader, getright and BitComet with flashgot and Orbit and getright works just fine.

When I try download a http file with flashgot and I choose BitComet, then BitComet loads up (starts) but nothing more happens. If i try again while BitComet is up, then nothing happens either (the computer "works a little" according to the mouse cursor, for a second or so, then nothing)

The settings is set as following:

refferer automatic, send cockies = yes, send authentication = yes

and latest BitComet has some very powerful http download capabilities so I plea on my knees for help on this one.

BitComet 1.17 is working just fine for me with FlashGot.
Notice that the IE menu integration must be enabled, in order for it to work: BitComet Tools|Options|Integration|IE Integration|Add "Download with BitComet" to IE Context menu.

Hey and thanks! First of all I have to say thank you for your projects to firefox. They are most excellent to say the least.

About my problem, I am afraid putting a checkmark there didnt work

I try the same procedure with winrar install exe and with still the same results. Is there any other setting in BitComet regarding IE that must be checked? I have not installed the IE link catching thing at all for example as I dont use the browser anyway. I started it however to verify that the menu came up and sure enough, it did. In right click I can choose "download with bitcomet" in the context menu in IE after I enable the setting you told.

Funny, I never did try if it actually worked but I did now and yes it does.

I am still trying this simple link: http://rarlabs.com/rar/wrar391.exe (is winrar legal trial, good test link)

The link is wraped in nothing fancy at all. Simple direct link.

If I FlashGot it in Orbit = it works
if I flashgot it in getright = it works
if I flashgot it with star downloader = it works

if I right click in IE -> download with bitcomet = it works (bitcomet starts up, shows the download prompt for http file)

If I flashgot it with BitComet = still doesnt work. Cursor tells of computer activity for a second maybe more, then BitComet starts, then nothing.

Ideas?

Have you got any sandbox or personal firewall which may interfere?
Could you try reinstalling both Firefox and BitComet?

I use the windows xp sp3 built in firewall only.

Bitcomet.exe is allowed. The BitComet ports are also allowed as per automatic from the program itself. as in exceptions in the firewall.

Firefox.exe is also on exceptions list.

I have not put any flashgot component on the exception list as the other download managers worked. Should I do that?

I reinstalled BitComet just now and it still isnt working. Im hesistant to reinstalling the whole firefox. Maybe you have any other suggestion first? thanks for the time your taking

How do you mean interfere? What does flashgot need really?

It needs to instantiate Bit Comet's Internet Explorer integration component in order to talk with Bit Comet.
This may be regarded as "hostile" by some security policy.

No, FlashGot.exe does not anything at the network level therefore is not affected by the Windows Firewall, which is a network-only product.

It's innocuous. All your preferences and data are store in your profile.
BTW, could you try in a clean profile, with just FlashGot isntalled?

Ok I did as you asked and created a new clean test profile. I booted it up and installed only FlashGot (the latest version in AMO, seemingly updated today)

The problem persisted.

Just to be thorough I also reinstalled firefox as you said. Problem persisted.

Reinstalled BitComet again, problem persist.

In a way it would seem that FlashGot/Firefox is not the one to blame by now. Especially since the other download managers works with it. However it cant be BitComet either becouse you had it working right? 1.17 (stable, not beta)? Did you do anything special?

Any more tips? This is driving me nuts. One of the reasons I got BitComet instead of another client is too use flashgot to download http files with it.

Some more info (probably irrelevant) is that when I install bitcomet, I do not select that it should install flashgot (becouse I already have it installed) - it couldnt block flashgots attempts becouse of this right? (you see in my screenshot up there what I mean - the "firefox extension" is shown as not installed)

I just installed BitComet 1.17 on a clean Windows virtual machine, with its default options except the one saying "Replace FlashGot", with IE integration and without Firefox integration.

I also (obviously) choosed not to replace flashgot.

I have tried everything I can think of now. I also enabled all the IE integration in options as to have similar setup as you had in the test. Same problem. Yet it downloads perfectly fine through internet explorer itself.

I can try describe the activity (detemined via "hour glass" cursor) behavior when I try via FlashGot:

(this is with BitComet already open, so no activity is from it starting)
-I choose FlashGot -> BitComet for the winrar trial exe file
-Steady activity for like 1-2 seconds (this is always same amount)
-Activity stops, then 2-4 quick flashes of activity.
-Activity stops. Nothing happened.

Why do i say this? Well I know nothing of coding but with the other download managers it does not take such "long time" - it just fires it up after half a second or less activity.

Almost like it times out somehow? If that makes any sense (becouse the activity is always the same when i try with bitcomet, even with it already opened up and ready)

Do you make something out of this?

Okey I hate to nag but i seriously want to get this working :S is there someone who can take a shoot at solving this? I swear to god this is the final thing keeping me from donating for this awesome project (i never really used flashgot that much earlier, but sure will now if this works)

I can add, that aperantly it works if I do a batch download of an entire page. Its just "flashgot link" that produces the problems. Just noticed this.

If batch, then bitcomet properly opens the batch window for http.
