Classic Yahoo Mail refreshes continuously

Post by PeterS »

The Classic version of Yahoo Mail has recently started being incompatible with Noscript. I use the Classic version so I can run without being afraid of malicious scripts in an email shown within a Yahoo Mail page.

Yahoo Mail first line of page source with Noscript enabled, Firefox Javascript also enabled. Page displays but refreshing goes on CONTINUOUSLY.

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"><html lang="en-US"><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><noscript> <img src="mail?cmd=cookie.setnonjs&.rand=1028385630&mcrumb=jG00cB5zkMB" height="1" width="1"><META HTTP-EQUIV=Refresh CONTENT="0; URL=http://us.mc368.mail.yahoo.com/mc/welco ... <script>if (self != top) {top.location.href = self.location.href;}if (self != top) {while (navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf("khtml") > 0) {;}}var isBookmark = false;function positionOffscreen(flag) {var newStyles = document.getElementById("offscrId");if (!newStyles) {var head = document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0];newStyles = document.createElement("style");newStyles.type = "text/css";newStyles.id = "offscrId";newStyles = head.appendChild(newStyles);}if (!flag && top.location.hash != "") {if (newStyles.styleSheet) {newStyles.styleSheet.cssText = "body {left:-999px;top:-9999px; position:absolute;}";} els

Yahoo Mail first line of page source when Noscript is disabled, Firefox Javascript is also disabled. Page displays perfectly without refreshing continuously.

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"><html lang="en-US"><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><script> var nonJsBeacon = new Image(); nonJsBeacon.src = "mail?cmd=cookie.clearnonjs&.rand=2144643851&mcrumb=jG00cB5zkMB"; </script><script>if (self != top) {top.location.href = self.location.href;}if (self != top) {while (navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf("khtml") > 0) {;}}var isBookmark = false;var mgProfiler = {timerEnabled: "1",rsBeaconUrl: ".",CT: 0,MT: 0,CL: 0,OC: 0,OM: 0,totalAdTime: 0};

It's working just fine for me.
Could you try using NoScript Options|Reset?

Runs ok here (au.yahoo classic - on Ff 2 and 3) on clean test profiles as well as the ordinary ones, with Yahoo both allowed and forbidden.

Yahoo in my experience redirects a lot and the redirections change frequently. Not just for locally tailored content, but for sign-ons and Flickr stuff everywhere. Even more shifting around than Ggle.
Right now I see that Classic view mail options can't be accessed without JS. Yahoo, as usual, is 'working on it'.

Not sure why they call it "classic", because they keep changing it. They should give a new name to the changed versions and leave "classic" alone. I have several Yahoo accounts: one for friends and family; one for signing up to sites with trusted admins, like this one; and one that is a "spam magnet", for when I don't know whom I'm dealing with, ordering from, etc., or whether they will sell, rent, trade, or post my email address on the web and the front page of all major newspapers. #3 does a very good job of keeping spam out of 1 and 2.

All three are Classic, but at any given moment, they may not work the same. Recently, one of them (#2), "improved" by adding Chat and IM, even though I didn't want it, didn't sign up for it, etc. Takes extra time to load, etc. They had a feedback form, and I told them where they could stick their improvements. The relevance to your post is that for a while, several standard mail features were broken, or took terribly long to load a page or even send mail. Once I had to copy the message I wanted to send, save it as a text on my desktop, log out, and log back in, cuz it was hanging forever. That worked. Then other problems kept popping up. As Nan said, they are "working on it". But this is *NOT* a NoScript issue in all likelihood. (It might be scripting-related, but it's their job to write their scripts correctly rather than force you to disable NS.) I suggest sending a query to Yahoo Customer Care, and sending your opinions in the survey.

In the meantime, if you're crippled, open another free Yahoo account and see if it works. Good luck -- I'm as frustrated as you are with the continual "improvements" to YC.

I don't believe this to be a NS issue as I was able to use Yahoo in both enhanced and classic modes with no problem. I think it might be a configuration issue, since I have NS installed with other addons which often make life even more complicated and it doesn't happen. Does resetting NS as suggested, disabling or performing standard debugs yield anything that suggests its NS? Its easy to link problems with NS, god knows I have done in the past :oops: , but through Giorgio's and others' patience have come to know that although sometimes it is infact NS, most of the time it just appears that way because NS is more prominent in the mind of the user. Just saying :|

Dont get me wrong Im not saying its a NS problem, I think NS is great.The problem was probably me playing with my ZA settings at some point. :lol:

The comment was not directed at you, no worries. I also got the report you sent on your double post, I had already taken the duplicate post out but thanks for reporting it.

To the OP and others having problems, did you ever figure out what happened? Has it been resolved?
