Yes.
It can be disabled, but that would have been something you would have had to do.

Probably just not seeing the media on the site you are looking on.

It is appearing for me.
It is usually hidden by setting the flashgot.media.statusIcon or the flashgot.media.enabled about:config preference to false, but this is probably not your case since you seem not to know anything about it.
Maybe an extensions conflict? Does it work on a clean profile with just FlashGot? If it does, could you try Standard Diagnostic on your original profile?

Just to note, had to Allow hypem.com, & then Blocked Object http://static.hypem.com.
(Took me for about ever to figure that out.)

Downloaded a file, came down as a "mpg" though it is actually an .mp3.
Perhaps the page is identifying it incorrectly?
