I have portable firefox 3.5.3 + portable Free Download Manager 3.0 build 848.
I choose the option in FDM to install FDM plugin properly onto the portable firefox and it works.
However, flashgot is unable to detect that portable FDM.
is this normal?
the setup is one USB driver example G:\
firefox is at G:\firefox
firefox profile is at G:\firefox\data\profile
FDM is at G:\fdm

I have Firefox Portable 3.5.3 also, but have never tried to install a plugin from a different folder on the USB drive. Instead, all are installed normally through the Fx UI for extensions, add-ons, etc. You're asking one add-on (Flashgot) to recognize a separate plug-in that is not in the Firefox profile folder (or in the Fx or Mozilla folders at all).
I'm not a Flashgot user or supporter, so perhaps one of the Flashgot support team members can help you. But it sounds like it might also be a question for the provider of the portable apps. (Are you using PortableApps.com, or where?) The reason being that the location path of the profile is different, etc. Please check with them as well. Thanks.

I am having the same problem with GR portable in FireFox portable.
With Flashgot installed into the FF portable browser FF does not see GR for downloads, it does not evern give the option.
GR may have to be installed on the PC Hardrive to work in the portable invironment, which defeats the portable application.
What say you?

I am pretty sure GetRight is supported and I don't think (although I can be wrong on this) depend on the copy to be necessarily on the desktop. HOWEVER, I do believe that with Giorigo's help, you should be able to modify the settings for the portable installed copy to recognize itself as the device and check there. If that is a possibility, Giorgio will get back to you on it I am sure, if not then I apologize for being wrong and hope it can be somehow resolved. Good luck.

Again, can the author of the portable apps help you? They would know how their portable differs from the HD version, and probably what modifications would be needed for the Fx Portable to find an app in another folder on the same flash drive.GP wrote:I am having the same problem with GR portable in FireFox portable.

Just a thought, but it's worth trying.

OK, I'm on the portable now. I have also Open Office Portable installed on the same flash drive. I went to a site that had spreadsheets and clicked to open one. Fx wanted to open it with the Open Office installed on the hard drive, but I was able to browse to the OO Portable and use that.
I realize it isn't exactly the same situation, but it seems that the portable app maker should be able to tell you how to get portable Fx or any of its add-ons "trained" to go to another folder on the same drive and access an executable there. GL.
