Allow FB scripts only on facebook.com?

Post by gardanni »

I occasionally check Facebook, but certainly don't want Facebook tracking my general use of the internet. Is there a way to configure NoScript so that Facebook scripts can run when loading pages from facebook.com but are blocked when loading anything else?

Many thanks.

When browsing Facebook, set Facebook sites to CUSTOM, then:
- make sure the permissions listed for "ANY SITE" are what you want on non-Facebook sites;
- change the "ANY SITE" dropdown to "...facebook.com" and individually allow the desired "additional" site-specific permissions there.

Note that NoScript is not an anti-tracking tool. You might consider adding something like uBlock Origin alongside NoScript, and also looking into Firefox Containers, to more comprehensively get the type of privacy protection you seem to be seeking.

Thank you for the technical instruction! I never explored the "custom" settings before - I am not very technical, and thought that would be beyond me! But the config was easy, and I appreciate that you pointed it out.

Thanks also for the broader contextual understanding... I will look at that blocker and the container setting of firefox.
