Forbid blob: and video playback

Post by Mark42824 »

I am having trouble with a few video sites where the video is greyed out and unplayable.

I have whitelisted the sites / subsiduary sites where the video is hosted, I have tried whitelisting all sites (bar known unrelated sites such as say, doubleclick).

There is one common factor - 100% correlation.

In the Noscript panel, a greyed out option appears "forbid blob:".

This includes one site who had an upgrade, where this "blob:" thing was previously absent (I prefer to temporarily allow rather than allow on most sites, so know what's there) and the domain I previously whitelisted to get the video to play no longer does the job.

What is this "blob:" thing?
Why is it appearing on more and more sites and why is it causing performance issues, particularly with videos?

....and more importantly, what can I do about it?

What version of NoScript are you using?
Are you really using Firefox 83 on Windows?
Could you please post example URL(s) where this occurs?

Eek! Didn't realise you could see my (spoofed) user agent! I spoof it mainly for Google Drive which otherwise insists it's not compatable with 52ESR, despite working prefectly if I simply spoof my user agent.

I am using Noscript 5.0.8.1
Firefox 52ESR
Desktop, Windows 7 Home Premium

Sorry, NoScript Classic is no longer supported and you're not even using the last NoScript Classic (5.1.9), we are not able to help.
