Problems running Firefox as non-Admin

I'm using WinXP SP3. I have Firefox 3.0.12 with Flashgot 1.2.0.4 and FreeDownloadManager (FDM) 3.0 build 848. I am logged in as the Administrator. Everything was installed as Administrator. Even though I'm logged in as the Administrator, I prefer to run Firefox as a restricted user for added security. If FDM is running before I start Firefox and I attempt to download a file, I always get the following error:

FlashGotError: Download manager not properly installed. Incorrect Function.

This problem will repeat for any download attempt until FDM is closed. If FDM is started after Firefox starts, or is started by Flashgot (which obviously is also after Firefox starts), I don't have this problem. Also, if I start Firefox as the Administrator, FDM can be running and I don't have this problem.

(As additional detail, when it fails, first the FDM window immediately comes to the front as if having focus, then nothing happens for about a minute, then the error appears. Also, multiple download attempts will seem to queue up and fail, and exiting FDM won't solve it until all queued attempts fail, then the next attempt will launch FDM and succeed.)

I've found that this problem is manageable by ensuring the FDM doesn't start automatically at boot, so that Flashgot usually starts FDM, but this still becomes annoying when I quit Firefox and later start Firefox while FDM is still running.

Is there any solution to this that allows me to still run Firefox as a restricted user? Clearly this permission combination can work, but needs to work a certain way.

Looks like an issue which needs to be fixed on the FDM side.
Does this problem exist also if you try to use FDM's menu items in Internet Explorer?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I can replicate the problem with Internet Explorer per your suggestion, so clearly it is not an issue with FlashGot. If you have a work-around, I'd welcome it, but I'll take the issue up with FDM and report back here if they provide a solution.
