11.3.7 stalls all connections after several hours on FF 98.0

Post by Guest »

After running for several hours in a FF 98.0 browser (several windows, several thousand tag), FF refuses to connect to websites. Load or reload of even simple sites (www.example.com) just spins waiting. No tab refreshes, no site loads. As soon as NoScript is disabled, spinning tabs immediately load. Re-enable NS and new URLs and refreshes all hang again. Restarting the browser will allow things to run for a few hours and then the browser will, with 100% certainty, hang again.

Win 7 (yes), 64-bit
FF 98.0, 64-bit
NoScript 11.3.7

Believe this is new behavior with 98.0. Not seeing it with chrome 99.0.4844.51, NS 11.3.6.

Can you see any error message in the browser console (ctrl+shift+J) when this happens?
Could you send me your NoScript Options>Export file?
Does the problem persist if you set the LAN capability to ON (checked) in all the presets?

When disabling the extension while a www.example.com lookup is hung, the first three lines show up immediately, followed by the fourth after a few seconds (this pattern reproduces):

If I enable the extension and start a page load, nothing shows up in the log immediately. If I wait long enough (~30s), I will get a few exception frames out of "resource://devtools/server/actors/network-monitor/network-observer.js". (I am running about:performance)

I've sent exports of the option settings via email.

Setting the LAN capability in TRUSTED, DEFAULT, and UNTRUSTED did not change the stall.

One oddity: when I opened the options panel, 'Disable restrictions globally (dangerous)' showed as selected even though it wasn't selected in the usual status display. Deselecting it was required to allow changing the capabilities. And I've left it off.

With 98.0.1 and the 'LAN' capability set on all three policies, I haven't seen this problem. I've also gone back to 'LAN' set only on 'TRUSTED' and that, too, is working. I'm not certain what was going on but I can't reproduce it now after experiencing problems across browser restarts and system reboots. Will kick this back to life if I see it again.

Son-of-a-... Just had a hanging event:
* FF 98.0.1
* NS 11.3.7
* 'LAN' capability set only on TRUSTED profile.

Immediately set 'LAN' capability on DEFAULT and UNTRUSTED and no change. (Did not restart viewer.) Disabled NS and tabs immediately loaded.

Console messages related to the event (from disabling NS):
