I am SO FURIOUS at Firefox. When you revert to a prior EXE version, they PROHIBIT using the newer version profile. I lose sessions (dozens of pages). I lose bookmarks (though that one is solvable). I lose History. I lose SETTINGS which are painful to get them all right - there are hundreds of config items. And saved logins - just imagine what hell that may be if I can't relocate them. (I had to reenter my login info 3 times today just for informaction.com) Why? Why?
Because you didn't use the --allow-downgrade command-line option when starting Firefox?

I'm so sorry to take your extremely valuable time as well. At least I may have sounded an alarm on Firefox 98.0 possibly disabling NoScript, although of course it could be just in my installation, my problem alone.
Thanks for the report anyway. Maybe it could be possible this is a platform-specific Firefox bug that NoScript should try to work around? I don't know.
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!
- Reverting Firefox from 98.0 to 97.02 seems to have eliminated every NoScript issue that appeared today, when I believe I was auto-updated.
- My problem only occurred when I closed and restarted Firefox with a saved session. I could copy a URL of a page that refused to load, Control-N a new browser window, paste the URL and it would work perfectly. Or on the problem window I could do one of the 2 workarounds I mentioned earlier in the thread.
- I can only make that claim because barbaz saved me an *immeasurable* number of hours of current AND future time by informing me of
-allow-downgrade
They could have just said so when they gave the message that you cannot keep your prior profile and the many, many, many, many details it entails, but only thanks to barbaz's shrewd and generous revelation did I gain this essential information.
- I appear to be still on the developer version, with a different looking icon style atop. NoScript icon/Options button shows version 11.4rc3 in small print
- I apologize for ranting but try to understand that after so very very many hours I've burned ... I wish Microsoft and Mozilla would get a clue about that.
- A tip that I picked up in this ordeal: when you upgrade Firefox, you may want to edit the .LNK (Windows Start menu, desktop, etc.) to append
/prompt
in order to get the profile selector. Maybe it's in Firefox settings or about:config but I didn't locate it.
- Now, in line with the thread subject line, right now I see a "2" on the NoScript icon for this page, though there's only one domain when you click it, which is currently on Default. (Thank you by the way for letting me post with it off! And for remembering what I typed on the page when I turn it on. If only every developer was that diligent, grrrr!). Upon permitting informaction.com, the 2 now disappears.
barbaz I can't fully express my gratefulness at your kind and patient assistance, and for analyzing the TXT as well. I owe you. PM me when you or Giorgio come to Texas. I'm overwhelmed at your kindness and generosity.
All NoScript is outstanding.
