FlashGot has stopped working, after upgrading Firefox

Post by Lookin4Help »

Hello everybody. FlashGot worked just fine until yesterday. I used to go to YouTube or anywhere that had embedded videos and the moment I pressed play, the FlashGot box would appear and ask me if I wanted to download it, and to where (I always used the same folder). After upgrading to Firefox 3.5 yesterday (7/27/09), it stopped working. Now I can't seem to figure out how to get any videos from any site. Even if I press play then try to go to the menu and select "flashgot selection." I tried deleting everything, including Firefox and Flashgot themselves and reinstalling, then rebooting, and I still can't figure it out. Anybody know what I might be doing wrong? I am not a complete computer novice, but I'm far from an expert. Thanks for any help.

I am running Mac OS 10.5

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flashgot, it didn't work. I also downloaded "speed download," and still nothing!

Does the FlashGot Media icon start flashing on the status bar when the video starts playing?

Hi. I didn't have the little FlashGot icon on my toolbar, but I just added it and tried again. No, it does not flash. It's set to autostart downloads yet when I press play it's like I don't even have FlashGot. Any ideas?

You're saying you received a popup dialog asking to download?
If so, how did that happen - what caused it to happen? Is that normal?

Your download manager or some other extension causing it to happen?

Otherwise, you wouldn't have to click the FlashGot Media icon to cause the Autostart.

(I'm not really familiar with the Autostart downloads option, so not exactly sure what to expect?)

Well back when it used to work, yeah I got a pop-up box whenever I went to YouTube and pressed play. It asked me where I wanted to download the video to, and it was almost always set to a "videos" folder on my desktop. I think because I didn't use a download manager. I think the setting was cUrl, or something. I loved the way it worked, it was nice and simple. Press play, and if I didn't want to capture the video I was watching, I just had to select cancel when the prompt appeared. After the upgrade I can't figure it out!

Does it work if you click the FlashGot Media icon which should appear flashing on the status bar when you click play?

The little cloud with orange lightning bolt icon? It doesn't flash when I press play.

No, on the status bar (the bottom of the window) an icon with a film superimposed with a lightning should be flashing, unless you disabled the status bar from Firefox's View menu.
Furthermore, a similar icon with the label "FlashGot Media" should appear in your context (right click) menu if a movie is playing on the page.

Oh! I just noticed that. Well I see the icon flashing now, but when I click on it, nothing happens. If I cntl + click on it, it tells me the name of the file. One time I saw a little progress bar just to the right of that icon, but it stayed still, and the video never downloaded. Before the upgrade all I had to do was click play, and a box would appear and ask me where I wanted to download to (I had a default folder on my desktop set up). If I wanted to check the speed of the download, all I had to do was click on the word "video" in my toolbar, and a small FlashGot box would appear that would allow me to see pending downloads, current downloads, and completed downloads. Now I can't even find that! Am I doing something really wrong, or does FlashGot just have different functionality now that I have to learn?

I'm thinking (as I thought before) that you had some other extension that you were actually using for (at least some) downloads?

Check your Extension list see what may be in there.

It seems to me that, FlashGot Media is functional due to content media file. For example it is active for some Facebook videos, and inactive for some others. I tried to used another software to download media while FlashGot Media is inactive but download was unsuccessful.
