Any settings to add to about:config for a workaround to this, like what was provided here for the google search results?

I see nothing out of ordinary on YouTube.
What are your current useragent overrides?
Screenshot of the problem?

Good Morning.

Sorry for the thread mine - but it appears Google is up to their shenanigans again!

As of this morning in AUS, Google Search results showing in mobile/tablet mode again - FF V70.0.1 - Ubuntu/Linux

As before I have:

Cleared all my Cache/cookies & History.
Restarted the machine.
Restarted Firefox in safe mode (no addons)
Disabled all addons.

For the temporary fix, is for me to delete the string in Firefox about:config:

general.useragent.override.google.com.au;Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 7.1; Trident/5.0)

Appreciate any help please to sort this out.

Thanks

~SO

EDIT: The http://www.useragentstring.com/ website seems out of date the last Firefox useragent string that I can find is V.64. Thanks.

Thank you, yes, I'm experiencing the same issue. I am hoping there's another edit to about:config to get around this.

no solution yet.
strangely the google image search displays the old layout with javascript disabled.
and it returns desktop mode results.
no site specific user agent set for google.

Thanks rereser.

I wonder could it be something to do with NoScript itself?

I noticed an update of the FF addon the day before. Something maybe broke?

no fault of noscript , using 5.1.9 on pale moon 28.7.2.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:54.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/70.0 set as google override.
new profile without noscript.
about:config > javascript.enabled = true > new layout
about:config > javascript.enabled = false > mobile view.
tried a few hundred Mozilla/5.0 user agents.
some will provide the old black bar on google launch.
but all will display the new layout when running a search.
one advantage is that now you have access to the google settings with the above user agent.
maybe some code in the browser profile / chrome / userContent.css holds a solution.
don't have the knowledge for that.

have the below user agent set as general to test other sites.

Any solution to this? I really would like to get back the desktop view but keep noscript enabled.

I have tested few useragent strings but none of them seem to bring back the old search. There might be other ways, but I have no clue what those might be.

You could always send feedback to Google and urge them to enable the old search interface for those that disable scripting. Personally I switched to using Startpage and DDG back when Google made the first change.

Thanks skriptimaahinen for your efforts.

Hopefully there may be a fix soon - it's beyond my skillset!

skriptimaahinen, I would definitely do that if I didn't already know how unresponsive, unhelpful and just all around unpleasant Google has been to support inquiries. Any support requests has to go through the product forums, and even there, you aren't receiving help from google directly, but a bunch of volunteers who merely relay information and hope to get a response. It's pretty much a given 100% that any suggestions given this way goes completely ignored.

Hello!

Anymore information on this?

Has anyone been able to use no script with Google search home page since?

Thanks!

I'm wondering the same thing. Google search is so crippled in the mobile format, but I really don't want to disable noscript.

I noticed that when they put this cripple on browsers with disabled Javascript back in May earlier this year, there were a few news posts published about it around the web. But when they managed to do it again more recently in November, there's nothing. Kind of weird.

I have unfortunately disabled NoScript, the mobile interface was doing my head in!

I hope there is a fix soon.

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.5
Changing 5.0 to 4.0 & removing Gecko, helps.

Code: Select all

Mozilla/4.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:56.0) 20100101 SeaMonkey/2.35.1
Though there is still tracking crap.
(And similarly, the actual link that the site you're visiting also has that crap.)

Code: Select all

https://winworldpc.com/product/norton-commander/4x?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi68IKJ4fvmAhXIJt8KHWsQC1YQFjABegQIBxAB
But at least there is less delay (where otherwise you go through google.com, first, before reaching your destination).

Any clean way to automatically strip crap, the ?sa=.* part?

Code: Select all

?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi68IKJ4fvmAhXIJt8KHWsQC1YQFjABegQIBxAB
There are extensions (that I'd rather not have to use [Pure URL for Pale Moon, legacy]), or a bookmarklet (viewtopic.php?p=100870#p100870, that you'd have to click on a per instance case).
Can NoScript (5.x or 10.x) do it, directly?
