uBlock Origin features that can overlaps with NoScript

Post by Lucas Malor »

I installed uBlock Origin because NoScript does not support ABE for now. I would know if certain features of uBlock Origin can be disabled if one uses NoScript too:

- Disable hyperlink auditing
- Prevent WebRTC from leaking local IP addresses
- Block CSP reports

No. NoScript does not have equivalent features.

NoScript is a security tool, uBlock Origin is a privacy tool. "Disable hyperlink auditing" and "Block CSP reports" are privacy protection, not security, so NoScript probably won't implement them.

But I can disable `Prevent WebRTC from leaking local IP addresses`? I remember that NoScript has an anti-WebRTC filter.

NoScript doesn't have that one either. Blocking WebRTC IP leak is arguably a security feature as well as a privacy feature, so although it's not part of NoScript now, IMO it wouldn't be out of line to include it in NoScript. No idea whether it will actually happen, so for now leave the uBlock Origin setting enabled.

Ok. Anyway, I remember the old NoScript allows to block WebRTC and `<a ping>`. Is there a possibility to readd them?

PS: I see that if I click options in NoScript, there are various types of content blocked:
  • script
  • object
  • media
  • frame
  • font
  • webgl
  • fetch
  • other

What are `other`?

Thank you for your response :) So `other` is all the new JS and HTML API, that are not well know so can be threaded as `suspicious`. Am I right?

PS: I'm discussing about uBlock Origin vs NoScript here. I quote:
it blocks ads, trackers, you can use dynamic filtering (which can replace any NoScript)
Is this true? uBlock Origin can replace NoScript?

atm you probably could replace NoScript 10 with uBlock Origin, but it's not quite a complete replacement. You'd lose WebGL blocking and XSS filter.

Just read the full context of that link. I had forgotten about the "other" ublock. I edited the topic title to make clear that we're talking about uBlock Origin here. You may wish to replace "uBlock" in your posts with "uBlock Origin" or "uBO" for further clarity.

You're right, I replaced it also in all my posts. What a pain in the arse...
