FlashGot items are absent for the first time

Post by TheExplorer »

Seems that there is a random bug when right-clicking on a .patch file.
When I go to an FTP site and right-click on a file there is no item for FlashGot like "FlashGot Link" to download the patch with the default manager (here: wget). When I secondly right-click on it - FlashGot items appear. Strange...

I'm using Debian Squeeze (Stable) without any testing or unstable packages + Firefox 5.0.1 from the official Mozilla site copied into /opt directory.

I have NoScript and AdBlock also installed.

Would willingly help you to diagnose this issue. Thank you in advance.

Alexaner.

I cannot reproduce.
Is FlashGot from the Debian package or from http://flashgot.net/getit?
Does it happen also on a clean profile with just FlashGot installed?
If it doesn't, could you try Standard Diagnostic?

When this happens, do other FlashGot context-menu items display (like FlashGot All)?

Giorgio Maone:

1) From here: http://flashgot.net/getit
2) Yes, this happens on a clean profile as well. Just tried it right now: no items for FlashGot

Actually I go to this page from my bookmarks and then go to 2.6.39 folder if it matters.
I also have "Build Gallery" and "Hide Icons" unchecked in FlashGot options if it matters.

therube:

No item at all for FlashGot. I've tried different combinations like:

1) Clean profile with FlashGot only
2) Clean profile with FlashGot + NoScript (only NoScript item is visible in the context menu)
3) My working profile with these two plus AdBlock

First right-click on a patch file - the item is absent, the second right-click - it's there...

Wonder if it is a Mac issue?

Or as a test, if you setup an older version of FF, 3.5 or 3.6 along with a new Profile for that?
(Don't know how that works on a Mac?)

On the OS level, any other program set up to handle .patch files, such that when you click (or right-click) a .patch it does something? And maybe that may be capturing the initial (FF) context-menu action? (Kind of wouldn't make sense.)

Other expected context-menu items do display, like Copy Link Location?

Please read carefully: I'm under Debian Squeeze and I said that there are no items for FlashGot only :)

Under Windows it's Ok. I've just tested it right now.

P.S: Will try with FF 3.x tomorrow and will let you know.

OK, tried right now in Firefox 3.6.19 with no issues, FlashGot items are present.
Tried in Firefox 5.0.1 - FlashGot items are absent.

Tried also to open FF from the console - no messages.

Giorgio, what else should I do to debug it? Will strace help?

By the way, a little P.S. Firefox - Tools - FlashGot - About FlashGot 1.3.0.4 1.3.0.4 :) dubbed

When you said you tested in a clean profile, did you mean a brand new one or did you just disable the other extensions?
Is there any special theme/extension which Debian installs by default to "enhance" the platform look and feel?

No:
Firefox 5.0.1 from the official Mozilla site copied into /opt directory.
Clean profile is when I do: rm -rf ./mozilla

P.S: Here is also my prefs.js if it can be of any help as I have made some performance tweaks like disabled browser.cache.disk.enable etc., but I don't think they can interfere since I've also tried removing the profile completely.

Yeah, I know. When I install extensions I update 'em from within Firefox then and it shows no updates as for now. But I see that there is a higher version already, anyway the issue is not 'bout NoScript but FlashGot.
