Giorgio! -- Imagefap Killed "Flashgot Link" This Afternoon.

Post by nuncus »

O/S = XP Svc Pk 3
Fx ver. = 16.0.2
Flashgot ver. = 1.4.8.6rc1

Use Flashgotwith BOTH

(a) Fx Download Manager; AND

(b) Free Download Manager

Dear Giorgio:

imagefap.com just killed Flashgot Link (both as to downloads of complete album pages, as well as downloads of individual pics from links in complete album pages) at around 3:00 P.M. EDT today. Both functions worked fine last night.

Instead of a PIC file, you now end up downloading a "index.html" file or a small, numbered file with no extension.

The shoot down, I think, is of "Flashgot" inasmuch as I tried Flashgot Link BOTH with the Fx 16.0.2 Download Manager AND the Free Download Manager; and neither one would work any longer on imagefap.com.

You can probably verify the malfunctioning from any page at the site but here is where I first noticed the malfunctioning:

h ttp://www.imagefap.com/gallery/3080178 (link to a gallery) NSFW

AND

http://www.imagefap.com/photo/139809405 ... 178&page=0 (link to individual pick FROM the gallery page)

Somehow they are preventing Flashgot from boring in on and grabbing the linked gallery pics or the individual pic from the gallery.

One would think that the folk at imagefap.com would just grow up and stop the silly games. NONE of the pics at this site are proprietary either to the site or to the users of the site.

Go get'm dude.

Best regards,

Nuncus

So what, you're saying in the past you could just FlashGot All (filtered on JPG) & it would download all the pictures?

Ah, but if you open one of the linked pictures, then from that page it does look like it can then download them all (FlashGot All).

h ttp://www.imagefap.com/photo/217242452/ ... 178&page=0
(copy the link, stick an h in the front & paste)

That brought down 30 full-size pictures.

Oh, & if you don't put links in [URL] tags, they're apt to be broken by the board.

I agree - this is not working as before. I could browse to a gallery, hit the "one page" link at the top and do flashgot all.

Before yesterday, I would save to a directory and would get the thumbnail named some numeric string and each related full size image that's available through the link on the thumbnail.

For example, in this gallery:
[url]hxxp://www.imagefap.com/pictures/3770248/Gorge ... rt-~-Dasha[/url]

I would get a thumb like this:
[url]hxxp://x.fap.to/images/mini/49/157/1573956600.jpeg[/url] (named 1573956600.jpeg in the directory)
and a full size image like this:
[url]hxxp://x.fap.to/images/full/49/157/1573956600.jpeg[/url] (named something like Gorgeous-German-Model-and-Escort-24.jpg)
*change hxxp to http

Now I just get the thumbnail.

My configuration that was downloading full size images:
Ubuntu 10.04
FF Aurora 17.0a2 (also tried Aurora 16 with same effect)
Flashgot 1.4.8.6
WGET Download Manager
No image filters

Dear Rube:
So what, you're saying in the past you could just FlashGot All (filtered on JPG) & it would download all the pictures?
Not exactly, Historically (until this afternoon), here's how Flashgot worked:

1. If you wanted to download an entire gallery (using EITHER your download manager with Flashgot OR using the native download manager in Fx with Flashgot),
you would just right click the link to the entire gallery and from the pop-up menu choose "Flashgot Link."

2. If you were already in a gallery, you would simply right click the thumbnail link pic for the picture file (the large JPEG itself), and from the pop-up menu, you would choose "Flashgot Link." That would download the individual picture to which the link referred.

You didn't have to do any more than that; you didn't have to mess with Flashgot All and putting h's and such in front of pages. It's a fairly straightforward operation in Flashgot.

Keep in mind, however, that Imagefap and its operators absoliutely DESPISE Flashgot and its author and its users.

So, from time to time, when they can figure out how Giorgio's performing his Flashgot downloading, the folk at Imagefap will change some code around in order to break Flashgot on thier site.

So, at some point, Giorgio does whatever it is he does to overcome the breakage, and life goes on.

In fact not only has this come up from time to time before; but you yourself have been a party previously to the discussions surrounding this imagefap caused problem.

If you search on imagefap and also on nuncus by author, you will see the record of this problem over the years; you will also find your own posts on this point.

Here's the search string:

http://forums.informaction.com/search.p ... mit=Search

You will also find your own posts in the mix.

In fact, here's a lengthy troubleshoot in which you participated on this point:
[RESOLVED] FlashGot Apparently Broken by Imagefap.com Again.
http://forums.informaction.com/viewtopi ... t=imagefap

Here's your first post in that particular instance of this problem:
> right click the gallery link and select "FlashGot Link"; and the gallery file pics have always downloaded

Working here. (Never even knew you could do something like that.)
Perhaps something related to computer "horsepower" (lack thereof?) & dial-up connection?
It does take a bit of time to obtain all the links, but the are obtained & sent to my download manager.

> h ttp://www.imagefap.com/gallery/1798120

FlashGot All takes even longer here, but again is working for me.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.19) Gecko/20110420 SeaMonkey/2.0.14 Pinball NoScript FlashGot AdblockPlus
There's some back and forth in there between you and me; but Giorgio fixed the problem so fast, his fix more or less mooted out the troubleshooting that we were beginning to address. We were appparently attempting to get a log of the errors that Imagefap was causing Flashgot to throw for Giorgio; but then he fixed the problem in like "presto," so the things you and I were doing more or less became irrelevant.

Imagefap is NEVER going to cease attempting to thwart Flashgot. If you look back over the record of this particular problem with using Flashgot with Imagefap over the years, you just gotta ask yourself just what their motivation could possibly be. I've never been able to figure out why they even care -- unless it's some kind of ego thing between their web site programmers and Flashgot.

If you re-look at some of the thwarting tricks the Imagefap site has attempted to defeat Flashgot, it's almost laughable. Other times, for example, they would twist things up so all Flashgot ended up with was a .PHP file as the download; THIS time, they are causing an "index, html" file to get fed to Flashgot as the download file.

I am not worried about it. Giorgio will get it straightened out when he has the time. He just needs to know about the problem.

Best regards, and I hope Giorgio can come up with an expeditious fix again.

WHEN USER RIGHT - CLICKS A THUMBNAIL PIC IN A GALLERY AND -- FROM THE RIGHT - CLICK POP - UP MENU -- INVOKES THE FLASHGOT LINK COMMAND:

Result: Flashgot can no longer find the underlying, source, JPEG pic file to download and instead downloads the "index.html" file for the web page to which the User would have been taken had the User simply LEFT - Clicked the gallery thumnail pic with the mouse.

- - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - -

Although I don't have a clue as to what the corrective coding in Flashgot should be, I think I see what's happening here at Imagefap.com -- at least when an individual thumbnail is right - clicked in a gallery and the User attempts to download the underlying JPEG file pursuant to invoking the "Flashgot Link" command on the right - click pop - up menu.

The "index.html" file that is actually being downloaded instead of the full - sized, underlying, JPEG is the key.

If you load that index.html" file into your browser, you will notice that the "index.html" page is the web page to which your browser would go if you LEFT clicked the thumbnail pic in the gallery. So, in effect, whatever coding changes Imagefap made to their website, the bottom line is that Flashgot is not boring down to the full sized JPEG, but instead, thinks that the index.html page -- which would normally be the page to which the browser would go had the User LEFT - clicked the thumbnail pic -- IS in fact the full sized JPEG file.

Stated differently, pursuant to a User right - click on a thumbnail pic in a gallery, Flashgot is simply now retrieving the index.html page to which the User would have been taken had the User simply LEFT - clicked the thumbnail pic in the gallery.

So, somehow, the Imagefap web programmers have figured out how to confuse Flashgot and misdirect it to the index.html web page file instead of letting it successfully bore in (hone in) on the JPEG itself that the User wants to download.

I have been attempting to generate a log in Flashgot to show exactly where Flashgot is going awry pursuant to the right -- click pop - up menu command to "Flashgot Link"; but Flashgot is not coughing up very much information in the log.

ALL RIGHT!!! Da' MAONE MAN just showed up! So, I'll just finish up my humble little "behavior oriented" report here to round out the misdirection outlined above in the individual link in a gallery thumbnail.

WHEN USER RIGHT - CLICKS A LINK TO A GALLERY ON THE POSTER'S GALLERY INDEX PAGE AND -- FROM THE RIGHT - CLICK POP - UP MENU -- INVOKES THE "FLASHGOT LINK" COMMAND:

Result: Flashgot is now simply downloading the gallery album page to which the User would have gone in his browser had the User simply LEFT - Clicked the link to the gallery with his mouse.

Stated differently, something appers to have been altered in the Imagefap web site coding that prevents Flashgot from boring/drilling past the gallery page itself and thereafter assembling the link paths to download all the underlying full sized JPEGS in the gallery.

In either event, the disruption appears to be symmetrical: Flashgot is being tricked into downloading the container page instead of pursuing the underlying link pointers to retrieve the full sized, underlying JPEG pic files.

Whew! :-) :-)

GO gett'um, Giorgio!

Please check latest development build 1.4.8.7rc1, thanks.

Notice that you can also use "FlashGot Link" directly on a link pointing the gallery page, rather than using "FlashGot All" on the page itself (you should get less "noise").

Dear Giorgio:

Works like a CHARM!

YOUDA'MAN! YOUDA'MAN! YOUDA'MAN!

- - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - -

Hey, Rube! See how that goes, man? All I can say is, "What an AMA - A - Azing programmer!

Also, when in doubt, use the "Flashgot Link" command instead of "Flashgot All" command.

Think of it this way: "Flashgot Link" is like shooting at something with a rifle that has been well sighted in. "Flashgot All " is like shooting at something with a shotgun -- you might hit all of it with "something;" but you might not hit what you want to hit.

Again, Thanks Giorgio,

Thanks. Great software -- I donated.

It works great on Ubuntu - both Flashgot All and Flashgot Link work exactly the same with WGET and no command arguments.

I also tried Windows (Vista) with GnuWget (an open source WGET for Windows) and with "Flashgot All" the downloader sends a bunch of terminal windows to the screen instead of the normal prompt for folder (they pop up and disappear rapidly - can't read them but I suspect it's an error). Switched to "Browser Built In" with "Flashgot Link" and it works much better, but still not as good as Ubuntu / WGET.

Any advice on best downloader to use on Windows? With configuration options, please.

Thanks for the great support.
