Problem with hotfile.com

Post by eradic8 »

I've never had a problem with downloading files from hotfile.com before when allowing hotfile.com and recapcha in noscript, but it seems since the latest noscript update simply allowing hotfile & recapcha is not enough as no recapcha box appears on page. I can however download a file if I allow all on page. I'm not exactly sure what is relevant on the page in order for it to work, as all Noscript appears to be blocking is google analytics.

I just tried allowing google analytics instead of allowing all page, and it worked for a download which would suggest Noscript users now have to allow google ANALytics in order to download anything from hotfile.

Sample: http://hotfile.com/dl/41081645/197758d/1cat.jpg.html

Allowed hotfile.com (for the counter to count)
Then had to allow recaptcha.net (for for the captcha to appear)

After countdown & recaptca, clicked the 'Download the file' button which then took me to the actual download link ('Click here to download').

Did not have to allow goggle-analytics.com ?

Same problem: the captcha box only appears after allowing the 2 Google sites.

therube's link works for me as well, just allowing hotfile.com and recaptcha.com.

BTW, why do you suppose it's been a NoScript change, rather than a hotfile.com change?
Does reverting to 1.9.9.69 actually help?
Does using NoScript Options|Reset and reallowing the two domains above help?

Assuming (based on mine and therube's experience) that this is not a NoScript-related issue, could you try to disable all the other extensions of yours to check whether it's a recently arisen extensions conflict?

What anti virus/ internet security do you use? Does it install extensions in firefox?

The reason I thought it a NoScript issue is that I downloaded a file from Hotfile.com, and about an hour later after I updated NoScript I tried another file and that is when I got the problem. Thinking about it though, I know that Noscript has somehow been able to bypass Hotfile download restriction recently, at least that is what I was told, and I did try it and it worked. I was able to download more that one file at a time, and there was no waiting time restrictions. I dont know how this was possible, but that is what happened.

I did try disabling Ghostery 2.1, and it was not that. The other relevant extensions are Adblock plus 1.2, BetterPivacy 1.47.4, Java cosole 6.0.20, two older versions of java console which I disabled which are versions 6.0.17 & 6.0.18, Microsoft.Net Framework Assistant which I have disabled, Norton IPS 2.0 & Norton Toolbar 4.6

Like I said allowing allowing all page in Noscript remedies the problem.

Have you tried a larger file? Say 20mb +

O.K I've found out that the issue only applies to downloads that require you to use recaptcha, in which case you need to allow google.com for the recapcha box to appear as well as hotfile.com and recaptcha. It seems some hotfile downloads do not use recaptcha and so only need hotfile.com to be allowed in noscript in order to download.
I'm not sure whether this will apply to other sites that use recapcha, but I suspect that is the case, and you will need to allow google.com in order for recapcha box to appear. I was wrong about having to allow google analytics, it is only google.com that you need to allow for recapcha box to appear. I'm baffled as to why you now need to have google.com allowed in noscript in order to see the recapcha box, but that appears to be the case.

I believe you're correct.

If nothing is Allowed (not even google.com) ...
Allow hotfile.com.
The captcha never makes an appearance, but the "Download the file" button does, though if clicked, fails.
recaptcha.net is shown in NoScript, but not google.com.
Allow recaptcha.net.
Still there is no captcha.
At that point, google.com is shown in NoScript, & in order for the captcha to appear, you then need to allow google.com.
After entering the captcha, then the "Download the file" button will take you to the download link.

Allow hotfile.com & recaptcha.net, but Forbid google.com.
The captcha displays & you can download the file.

Allow nothing bug google.com.
Allow hotfile.com.
After the countdown, recaptcha.net does show in NoScript.
Allow recaptcha.net.
The captcha displays & you can download the file.

I just temporilarly allow google.com, then as soon as the download starts I just revoke google.com from the whitelist. If you are going to allow google anyway, you might as well just do it that way, it is easier. Why does google.com need to be enabled in order for capcha box to show in the first place, that is what I dont understand.

Well I didn't know that, you learn something everyday thanks. I'm presuming it has always belonged to google inc then. Funny how up until recently you did not need to allow google.com to see the capcha box though.
