New mouse hover feature on bottom NS icon
New mouse hover feature on bottom NS icon
Giorgio, thanks for all the great work and I don't mean to be ungrateful, but I'm finding this new feature kind of annoying. I guess it's probably meant to add convenience, but in fact it's a bit like trying to catch a slippery fish. The mouse pointer has to be perfectly aligned moving up from the icon, or the icon or the scripts menu disappear too easily. I much preferred the old click on the icon way of getting to the scripts, since it stayed put. I'm not sure this is progress.

Agreed. Just came to the forum to see if it was just happening to me, because it seemed like an odd switch to make without seeing any mention of it in the options. Is there a way to disable the hover/pop-up? It certainly isn't a dealbreaker--I love NoScript--but it does seem a cosmetic and therefore unnecessary change that could use a toggle option.

Right on the main page
This behavior can be turned off by unchecking NoScript Options|Appearance|Open permissions menu when mouse hovers over NoScript's icon.
I had to come to the site to find it myself. I also found that feature annoying, but at least we can turn it off.
Thank you for the great FF addon, its not doubt saved countless people from getting infected by crap.

Re: New mouse hover feature on bottom NS icon
On a side note, beside NoScript Options|Appearance|Open permissions menu when mouse hovers over NoScript's icon to turn it off, which is mentioned both on NoScript's home and in the release notes page, the old behavior is restored just by... clicking on the icon like you always did.
I paid much attention not to get in the way of users' muscle memory. If you just ignore that the menu opened when you hover the icon and go straight to the click, the menu will behave "the classic way".

That takes care of it. Back to clicking again. Thanks

Giorgio, please excuse my lazy reading. I just had a more careful look at the Release Notes for the latest update, and it was clearly written that the mouse hover feature could easily be toggled. Thanks again.

Re: New mouse hover feature on bottom NS icon
Giorgio, any chance the hover functionality can be added to the custom toolbar icon as well? I prefer accessing NoScript from the top of the page so I put the custom toolbar icon next to the address bar, and never really use the status bar icon. Great feature, by the way

Got the dev build, the custom toolbar icon hover is working for me. I tried my hardest to break it but couldn't Thanks.

Re: New mouse hover feature on bottom NS icon
At first I was surprised by the new hover functionality - it should have been announced better in the version update which introduced it.
But I've gotten used to it, and actually I have come to quite like it.
However, I would like to be able to control how long I have to hover before the menu opens. I found some settings in about:config which seem like they ought to do it, but no changes I've made there have made any difference.
So, instead of muddying the waters with my own failed research, I'll simply ask here:
What are the configuration options to control everything about the new hover function (especially delay before a hovered mouse will trigger the menu to pop open)?
Thanks!
Jay

Re: New mouse hover feature on bottom NS icon
You probably want to increase the noscript.hoverUI.delayEnter about:config preference. It's expressed in milliseconds, and controls the time NoScript waits after the mouse enters the icon, before considering to open the menu.libove wrote:What are the configuration options to control everything about the new hover function (especially delay before a hovered mouse will trigger the menu to pop open)?
If you specifically want NoScript to require the mouse to stand still longer, you need to increase the noscript.hoverUI.delayStop preference instead.
