Startpage strange behaviour

Post by Asphyx »

An issue that I recognize for a long time now...
I use startpage for searches and don't have Javascript allowed for it.
With this setting I get an answer to the request but without search-results. When I disable JS at all (about:config), it works as it should. (also when I allow JS in Firefox+Noscript but that's not what I want) I don't remember, when this occured first time. I don't think this has always been the case.

Why does startpage works differently, when JS is only disabled by NoScript? What is the difference between "disabled JS in Firefox" and "enabled JS in Firefox + disabled JS in NoScript"? I'd like it better, when Startpage would work with the last setting, too.

Does your permission setting for Startpage have "noscript" capability checked?

This is an interesting hint. With "noscript"-checkbox enabled, the result is as expected - looks like with "javascript.enabled"=false. Shouldn't this be the default? Would there be a disadvantage to enable "noscript" as "Standard"?

It is the default. No idea why it wasn't for you.

Uuh you're right, thank you. I'll keep this default. Let me change my question: what's the risk to check "noscript" for untrusted sites?

There is no security risk. See viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26239 for details
