Can't permanently trust/untrust any more

Post by chompitty »

At some point in the last month or so, I stopped being able to permanently trust/untrust individual domains in the NoScript menu.

If I click on the "S" button in the upper righthand corner of the browser window, the list of domains for the current page appears. To the right of each domain are four buttons. The (S) and (\) buttons don't work any more, so I am stuck temporarily allowing all.

Is this a known issue, or a setting that I screwed up, or something else?

OS: Ubuntu 20.04.1
Browser: Firefox 92.0 (64 bit)
NoScript: 11.2.1 (7/28/21)
Other enabled add-ons: AdBlock Plus, GNOME Shell Integration, HTTPS Everywhere
Disabled add-on: ClearURLs

If you test with all your other extensions disabled, does that make any difference?

I believe same issues I'm having. Untrusted and Trusted filters are permanently greyed out and not active, which is a shame because they were a huge part of the customization functionality. Is this a bug or a 'feature' now? Is everything that's initially set to "Default" actually blocked?

Thanks in advance

@captain Is NoScript Options > General, "Disable restrictions globally (dangerous)" checked? If so, does un-checking it help?

@barbaz no, it was not checked though I tried checking/unchecking and reloading the page to no avail.

I did notice under options/reload/close icons in the main ribbon when you click the main NoScript icon there's a separate box which I always leave unchecked:

[Enable setting permanent permissions in incognito/private tabs.
BEWARE: doing this can leak site information!]

Clicking this box to select permanent permissions allowed the functionality (highlighted/colored and selectable) of Untrusted and Trusted back. I'm not sure why this has to be checked now to use those features. Is that intended? And what is meant by "BEWARE: doing this can leak site information!"

Thanks

Some configurations of browser's history settings can put the browser into Private Browsing / Incognito mode even in nominally non-incognito contexts.

If you set a site to permanent Trusted / Untrusted, that setting is stored on disk. In the privacy model of Private Browsing, this can be considered a privacy/information leak.

Makes more sense now and thanks again for your insight.

I posted this originally and then dropped the ball. I just needed to check the "Enable setting permanent permissions in incognito/private tabs. BEWARE: doing this can leak site information!" box. Thanks to those who answered.
