Just Lost All Recent Additions To My List

Post by Mad_Man_Moon »

Have there been any issues?

Is there some way that I can manage an auto export from NS, because this is tiring as all far ... Anyway, is there a way to revert to the previous set?

This *may* have coincided with an old browser being logged into ffSync, but (and my memory is THE WORST) I thought sync had no bearing on the NS lists.

It also may have coincided with an update for FF Nightly.

Code: Select all

87.0a1 (2021-02-15) (64-bit)
EDIT: OK, my memory was wonky. NS does sync. Christ. Just lost *everything* from the past year or so. Got to hope my Android device hasn't updated and I can get to it, AND disable wifi, before it does.

( sorry, georgio, this isn't meant as a gripe to be on your case ... but as you can see, I just clearly booted up an old machine, and it's oh nonono, don't funk with my hearted me right up )

NoScript does sync, but recent Firefox versions ("Fenix") on Android don't. Unfortunately, because otherwise you could have turned off Wifi on the other device, than make some changes, and hope for sync to overwrite the corrupted data.
BTW, if you've got backups of your browser profile you might try to restore them.

Cheers, Georgio. :-)

Yeah ... I use nightly on droid, too, but again, I'm sure it doesn't sync. Still, it'll be a darned sight more up to date than this.

What's the "time hierarchy" of what permissions (white/black lists) are kept?

Because surely I'd want the newest ones kept, no? Why has it sync'ed to older whitelists on the old machine, rather than the newer ones that have been updated more recently? Is this a privacy thing that I've not quite understood?

Firefox keeps timestamps of the browser.storage.sync keys, and syncs to the most recent version as you suggest.
Therefore it's very unlikely for the old Firefox to override your newer instance, unless some clock mismatch happened as well.
More likely it's just been a coincidence with some other kind of profile corruption.

Dang it ... it's weird that it happened as soon as the other browser loaded in with Sync, was all.

If this happens again, I'm just going to stop browsing the internet, I think ;-)
