SOLVED - Can NoScript Be Run on a Vista Computer?

Post by Skeezix »

I'm bringing up a Vista computer. When I go to the NoScript website I find I cannot download NoScript because the OS is too old. Is there an earlier version of NS that I could use for Windows Vista and if so, what is its version number and how can I obtain a copy?

What browser (& version) are you using on your Vista computer?

I'm using the latest for Vista computers - version 52.9 I think.

For Firefox 52.9 use latest NoScript Classic from https://noscript.net/getit (5.1.9 at time of writing)

Thank you. I went to the site and clicked on the "here" link. That link is about 1/2-way down the page. The download was successful but I keep getting a NoScript message that says, "Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer." This was on the Vista computer.

Seems odd to me to get such a message. What should I do?

@Skeezix Remember to log in before posting so that you can use your chosen username and don't need to repeatedly solve the CAPTCHA each time. (I fixed your last post)

Does it give you the option to allow it?

Can you right-click the NoScript Classic download link > Save link as, then drag the downloaded xpi into your Firefox tab bar?

Do you have about:config > xpinstall.signatures.required set to false?

Thinking it may be Mozilla's Y2K issue & you may need to install the fix for that, first.

Try installing this, Disabled Add-on Fix for Firefox 47 - 56.
Then see if NoScript will install?

Thank you for fixing it.

>>Does it give you the option to allow it?<<

Yes, I get a dialog box with an "Allow" button. When I click on it I get a DB stating, "Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer."

>>Can you right-click the NoScript Classic download link > Save link as, then drag the downloaded xpi into your Firefox tab bar?<<

When I do that I get a message stating, "This add-on cannot be installed because it has not been verified."

"xpinstall.signatures.required" was set to True, so I just set it to False. Then I closed and reopened FF and got a DB asking if I wanted to install (or something like that, I can't remember). I clicked "Yes" and NS then installed with version 5.1.9. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Thank you for your help. I'll write the fix in my NS notes for future use.

(Ah, I forgot that 5.1.9 is not signed.)
