(Solved) Problem Logging into MS Hotmail Account

Post by Skeezix »

For the last 20 years I have not had a problem with hotmail. But for the last 3 days, when I go to "hotmail.com" all I see is a blank screen. If I restart with addons disabled, I get the full MS screen and I can log in.

If I restart with addons enabled and then disable NoScript, I can log into hotmail.

Lately I have to muck around with NoScript to get my system working properly and I'm wondering if it is even worth using.

What version of NoScript?
What domains have you allowed in NoScript?
Have you checked to see if maybe something new is now showing up in there that may also need to be allowed?

About three days ago I had the same problem with an email provider, too, although it wasn't Hotmail. I first thought it may be a bug of NoScript, because there were several bug fix releases in succession. To find out which release had introduced the problem, I installed an earlier version which I knew of that it worked using a fresh profile. And now it didn't work either. There was a change made by the email provider and thus my rules had to be adjusted.

There is no guarantee that blocking rules work forever. They have to be adjusted in the course of time.

Is NoScript still worth using? There are some other good blocking add-ons after all. In my opinion it is worth using. NoScript complements the built-in features of Firefox better than other blockers, which mainly focus on blocking annoyances and increasing privacy a little. Firefox' built-in tracking protection is about as good as adblockers like AdBlock Plus and uBlock Origin in the easy mode. NoScript's dynamic blocking and security features like XSS prevention, however, add particularly much value to a well-configured Firefox.

I'm using version 10.1.8.23.
I have 64 domains set to "Trusted". I think I was pretty careful when I tagged them.
The problem seems to have started after one of the more recent (since August 1) NoScript updates.
I just went thru them and set several that I don't use anymore to "Default".

Thanks for your reply!

I've got the same hotmail symptoms. Occasionally, but regularly when i try to log in, hotmail says that scipts are not allowed.
But when I try second time, it works.
Somehow this resembles the youtube media-problem which vanishes after reloading, but this needs nothin but second attempt.

My NS -version is 9.1rc1

I'm now using version 10.1.9.8 and I haven't had any more Hotmail Login problems for the last couple of weeks. I think this problem has been resolved (but I'm not sure).

Hello, not sure if I have to open another thread because this one states that it has been solved.

I had the same problem of outlook live not opening in latest Firefox. This started a couple of months ago and I have been on the road so I had not much time to troubleshoot this.

Today I decided to check what was going on and sure enough NoScript was the one extension that was causing the problem. So, I decided to remove it and install the latest version. It worked lie a charm, the only thing is that now I don't get the image icon on the toolbar, just a blank space and it doesn't display anything, no image and number of scripts stopped, nothing. Is this your issue, or Firefox's?

I'd really appreciate any help on this matter.

TIA.

You have a different issue from the OP -

For this reason, starting a new thread would have been best. If you do so now, we can avoid duplication by linking it here and redirecting further discussion of your issue to your new thread.

Or, if you prefer, we can just split your post here to a new thread.

Let us know, thanks.

I don't think so. You describe an issue with the outlook site. chileno seems to be describing a problem with the NoScript toolbar icon.

i've added screenshots at the other topic, because at one moment noscript doesn't detect the need of script from "ow1.res.office365.com"
so the noscript toolbar icon doesn't change too.
