[RESOLVED] Issues with Flash Player since 10.1.8.8

Post by Hrodberht »

Hey there,

I've noticed that since I updated NoScript to 10.1.8.8 on July 18 I'm having issues with my Flash Player.
Any embedded swf won't play and just display as an empty white space regardless of whether I set NoScript to trust or mistrust the site or even individually allow everything.

I found the only ways to have the file play properly is deactivating any restrictions for the specific tab or deactivating NoScript in my Firefox Addons, which are both rather inconvenient.
This also doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Why would removing restrictions for a tab work if I already manually allowed the site to run unrestricted? Is there any fix to this or am I just missing something?

Running Firefox, Adobe Flash Player and NoScript all on the latest versions on Win10 Home 64 if that helps in any way.

Cheers

Thank you for your report.
I couldn't reproduce this issue.
Have you got the URL of a page where it's consistently reproducible?
Does the problem persist even on a clean profile with latest development build 10.1.8.9rc2 installed?

In Addons Manager, is Flash set to Always on or to Ask?

With Ask, you get some sort of object, though it's not too apparent that there is something you should do with it.
Anyhow, clicking it, twice, gets it working.
Or if you adobe.com had already been allowed a single click would have done it.

Thank you for your answers!
I have since resolved the issue.

Turns out I'm just an idiot, though. For some reason I was under the impression that my Firefox was up to date, when I was still running 60.0.
I was sure I had checked for updates, but apparently I didn't. Updated and it works like a charm again.
Sorry for taking up any of your time with my non-issue. Will pay more attention next time around.

the problem also happens in Firefox 60.1 ESR so you are not alone. might be fixed in normal Firefox 61 version

Just tested on 60, can't reproduce either. But the 60 variant, if any, might have been fixed by NoScript 10.1.8.9 in the meanwhile. Are you up-to-date?
