NoScript 5.1.7 in FF56

Post by Metalmorphosis »

Good morning and thanks for this great Addon. I'm using it for years now and waiting for the update for FF57, before updating to FF57.

I have never had a problem using NoScript, but since the last automatic update to version 5.1.7 (17. November) for Firefox 56 I have to report a bug.

1. Whenever I try to load Google or a site with HTTPS, whose are still in HTTP in my bookmarks, the site doesn't load properly or the message "302 Moved. The document has moved here" with the correct HTTPS-URL in the link.
2. All settings in NoScript are... well, empty. Even the white-list is pure *cough* white.
3. Clicking the NoScript icon doesn't show the entries I'm used to see. It's just "About NoScript 5.1.7", "Settings", "Allow Scripts Globally", "Temporarly Allow..." and "Cross-Site Scripting (XSS)".

I have made some Screenshots (Google Drive):

Thanks for the link to 5.1.6, pg. :) Now it works like it's used to be.

I'm getting the same issue in FF 56 as well. Just started with last patch on Friday.

Hello,

after disabling automatic update of FF from 56.x the update of NS 5.1.7 (from 5.1.6) breaks access to the internet banking of ING-DiBa.

Symtom:
https://banking.ing-diba.de/app/obligo with 5.1.7 senses no JavaScript but the page informs that JavaScript is required for proper use.

Temporary fix:
reverted to 5.1.6 (just replaced the 7 in the addin download link with 6)
https://secure.informaction.com/downloa ... -5.1.6.xpi

Now the page displays properly (but the site is temporarily under maintainance "Planmäßige Wartungsarbeiten")

Me too! ;)

NoScript 5.1.7 on Firefox 56.0.2 is not seeing any of my saved NoScript settings.
By using about:config I confirm that all the settings are still there;
capability.policy.maonoscript.sites still contains all my white-listed sites,
noscript.untrusted all my untrusted ones, etc etc.
It's just that NoScript 5.1.7 doesn't see them.

To make it work again,
I installed NoScript 5.1.6,
and switched NoScript's Automatic Updates from Default to Off.

Same problem here, only switching back to 5.1.6 did not solve all of the problem. I can see the NoScript options now, but I still get "This item has moved here.", and it is very annoying as it also creates a new window.

Yeah, 5.1.6 has other problems. I suggest rolling back to 5.1.5 if a rollback is needed.

I am having the same issues with 5.1.7. Never had problems before but after a restart to 5.1.7 Noscript appears non-functional. I was on the stable release update not beta also.

Noscript options look almost entirely blank and all settings appear gone. I can not access most sites. Had a hard time even getting here. I tried accessing https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/noscript/versions to get version 5.1.5 but nothing happens. It will not load at all.

Can someone post a direct link to the official stable 5.1.5 address?

How do I go about installing 5.1.5 over 5.1.7 in order to get all of my settings recognized automatically. Talking to me like I am an idiot is fine as I don't understand this very well and just want to get it working again without messing anything else up.

Thank you.

You literally just click the link and accept to install NoScript 5.1.5.

Thank you. Is that the official one from https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/noscript/versions or direct from the Noscript site or does it matter? I want to make sure I am on the one that will automatically update from the safest place in the future.

After installing 5.1.5., I just restart Firefox and all of the settings will be back to the way they were before 5.1.7. Nothing else to do?

I see in about config it still lists Noscript as version 5.1.5 instead of 5.1.7. Would changing that to 5.1.7 fix the problem or best to install 5.1.5 again anyway?

Does Giorgio need any console errors to troubleshoot this?

That link is from the NoScript site, but it should be the same either way.

All automatic updates come from AMO.

Right, NoScript isn't supposed to change your settings behind your back.

The update to 5.1.7 completely broke my browser too. When I logged in I got taken to the update page, which is weird because I had turned that setting off. It also claimed that I had 5.1.5 installed. Noscript was completely broken, I could not enable domains at all. When I looked at the noscript settings the whitelist was completely empty and every single checkbox had been unticked.

In order to fix things I tried to use this link:

https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/noscript/versions

But it only resulted in a blank white page, even with noscript disabled and firefox restarted. So I tried this one instead:

https://secure.informaction.com/downloa ... -5.1.5.xpi

And this one worked properly, it reinstalled noscript 5.1.5 and everything works normally again. I have turned off autoupdate for now.

I am the guest from post 10 and 12 but not the one from directly before this post with an update in case it is useful.

I ended up getting 5.1.7 working by doing the following. Not sure exactly what it was but it might have been a combo of the below.

I noticed every Noscript mention in the extension manager, the addonStartup.json.lz4 and extensions.json files, and the actual .xpi file in the extensions older were correctly stating 5.1.7 was installed. But, in about:config noscript.firstRunRedirection.pending and noscript.version both still listed 5.1.5 and the Noscript storage file in the browser-extension-data folder also showed those two instances of version 5.1.5.

First I tried changing the two 5.1.5 about:config preferences to 5.1.7, closed FF and then opened again. Doing so did not fix 5.1.7 and those preferences just went back to 5.1.5 when closed and opened the next time. I then, with Firefox closed, changed the two 5.1.5 about:config preferences to 5.1.7 again and this time also changed the two 5.1.5 versions to 5.1.7 in the Noscript storage file in the browser-extension-data. Then I opened FF with no change. 5.1.7 did not work and all of those changes went back to 5.1.5 automatically.

This last time, I did the same as last paragraph. Changed the two 5.1.5 about:config preferences to 5.1.7 and the two 5.1.5 versions to 5.1.7 in the Noscript storage file in the browser-extension-data. This time I also deleted the Firefox Profiles startupCache folder contents (not the whole folder, just the files inside) and hard rebooted. After turning the computer back on, 5.1.7 worked and all settings were back to normal.

I am not sure if just deleting the startupCache folder contents might have been enough all by itself (or even just webext.sc.lz4 file). Seems like FF might have gotten confused after the upgrade and on the next FF browser open was not correctly recognizing the new version even though everything is installed correctly. Sort of like it is loading something of the previous version from cache (a lot of the quicker start times are due to FF now saving a lot of info in that startupCache folder). The startupCache folder files get recreated automatically after deleting but forces FF to not use them that first time which could have been enough for 5.1.7 to work. If not just that, it would have been a combo of changing the instances of 5.1.5 to 5.1.7 plus deleting the startupCache folder files and/or the hard reboot.
