ABE requesting restricted page resulting in login dialog

Post by JIN »

Greetings,

(Summary: ABE seems to be requesting a page from my local password protected apache server resulting in an unwanted login popup.)

I use firefox on Ubuntu (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:54.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/54.0)
with Noscript 5.0.8.1

I sometimes start an apache server on my LAN to do a little test. Most times it is off (and then I do not have this problem).
All content is protected with a simple .htaccess file for username/password.

When I start firefox, and at some various intervals without my ever trying to access this apache server, a request gets sent that shows up in the apache access log like this:

192.168.1.1 - - [09/Aug/2017:14:21:47 -0400] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 401 732 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (ABE, https://noscript.net/abe/wan)"

And on my firefox I get a popup dialog for username/password ... even though I am not personally initiating any request to that site.
I wish to avoid the dialog popup and I'm hoping to find an easy way to stop it.

I admit though I have browsed the documentation on ABE, I don't really understand anything much other than I probably don't want to turn it off entirely.

I would prefer a general solution that prevents requests being sent to sites I am not currently visiting. I'd rather not solve the problem by some sort of whitelisting of my personal apache server ... unless this thing only happens on LANs? Is such a solution possible?

I hope I have been clear enough. Would any further information help?
Thank you in advance.

It's from ABE fingerprinting your WAN IP. For more information, follow the link in ABE's user-agent string.

Thank you. I should have said I already visited the link http://noscript.net/abe/wan, but I do not understand how to turn off fingerprinting in the client.
