Clean reinstall doesn't do much as the data is stored in your Firefox profile. Do you experience the same error in a new, clean profile with only NoScript installed and all defaults?

If so, what if you set Allow Scripts Globally in NoScript?

Also, when this issue occurs, do you see anything related in the Browser Console? (Ctrl-Shift-J)
(if you don't know what's related, turn off CSS warnings and post everything else you see)

Just tested in a fresh profile, only NoScript added, with the same problem.

Also checked with scripts allowed globally, and still happened.

Issue arose recently, in past few days
Does that correspond with Windows10 "creators" (or some such) recent "update"?

I am on the Creators update (ver 1703) and reported it to MS' feedback hub as well. Though I'd been running the last couple of preview builds of Windows for the previous week or two I can't recall if the situation came up in that time (that I had the. occasion to attempt this copy and paste) until recently. That said, it seems specific to FF with NoScript enabled, not happening with other browsers.

As a test, does disabling the XSS filter make any difference?

(NoScript Options > Advanced > XSS, un-check both boxes. Then, about:config > set noscript.xss.checkInclusions to false)

The behavior is a bit different, but still problematic. With XSS disabled the hang still happens, though when I kill the Office application the selection is pasted (when it wasn't previously).

Also, per a Firefox developer request I ran their regression tool with several builds from six months to almost a year ago, which all exhibited the behavior only with NoScript enabled but were fine with it disabled.

It seems the regression is in the latest update to that addon; I never had this issue until recently.
Well you could try, https://noscript.net/feed, or if you wanted finer grained... https://noscript.net/feed?t=a.

Now I'm not sure what to say about this: the older versions I went to also showed the problem - but I noticed on my other PC, a laptop with mostly the same software, it doesn't happen.

If you copy in your entire Firefox profile from the laptop, does it work?

1) Completely quit Firefox

2) Locate your profile folder on the good machine, and copy it.

3) On the non-working machine, create a new profile.

4) Completely quit Firefox, then delete the entire contents of the new profile folder you just created. Copy in the entire contents of the good profile folder.

5) Restart Firefox into your newly-copied profile.
