With NS, Firefox completely does not work

Post by Guest »

I am a relative computer novice so hopefully someone can help. Firefox updated to 50.1.0, every since then things have gone haywire. Ive had to refresh my NOscript in firefox. For a while it was working and then today I was just using the firefox search bar and even though it was set to google search option when i did a search it went to bing. This got frustrating and I read a post to refresh firefox. So I refreshed firefox again and when I reinstalled Noscript my firefox completely does not work. It cant pull up websites or even firefox help, its completely useless. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and it worked, but once I download Noscript firefox is usesless again. Ive done the process multiple times where i refresh firefox (i can access websites) then add noscripts and nothing can be accessed. Its almost as if its a complete firewall block on firefox once noscript is installed. I tried adjusting firewall settings, but nothing works. Other browsers work fine when firefox is not working at all due to Noscript. I really like Noscript so want to use the extension but its worthless if I cant access the internet.

Any help would be appreciated, but again I am not a programmer, so please give instructions in simplistic terms. Thanks.

It appears the Firefox 50.1.0 upgrade has totally bollixed your profile.

I notice that there are no release notes for Firefox 50.1.0. That's rather odd. Thus, I suggest you try this to get back working -
1) Uninstall NoScript
2) Download Firefox 50.0.2 from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/50.0.2/. Do not install it yet.
3) Create a new, clean profile. Start Firefox with this new profile.
4) Go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Update, select your choice of either:
  • - "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them", *or*
    - "Never check for updates"
5) Quit Firefox, then uninstall it from Windows Control Panel. Make sure to select to KEEP your personal data!!!!!
6) Install the Firefox 50.0.2 you downloaded
7) Does NoScript work OK in this relatively vanilla setup? If so, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _-_Firefox for how to get your old data back.

When done, do not update to 50.1.0 again. Wait for Firefox 51.0 to be released, before attempting to update.

Let us know, thanks.
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!

There are release notes for 50.1.0 as of at least 0400+0000 (UTC), at:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/5 ... easenotes/

The notes state; "fixed Various security fixes". The 'security fixes' fixes part of the sentence of course is a link to:
