Noscript problem with specific website

Post by deathdealer »

HI,

I have been using noscript for years with absolutely no problems - until now.

A few weeks ago noscript began messing with the functionality of steelers.com - I have attempted to play with all the settings and allowing all scripts on the website wihtout any luck.

If i uninstall noscript the functionality returns. I have also tried reinstalling noscript but the problem returns.

This occurs on all of my devices, wich all have windows 10 installed. The problem was there before i upgraded everything and my tablet was a fresh install and it was effected as soon as i installed noscript.

To recreate the problem just go to steelers.com and see for yourself.

I also have several other addons installed in firefox including adblock plus and flashblock. And yes i have tried uninstalling the other add ons to see if there was a conflict.

Any help will be much appreciated.

What functionality is missing, exactly?

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but if you go to the website it will be very obvious. If you click on videos they won't play, click on photos they never appear, click on schedule it never appears, menu elements never load, the embedded thing in the center of the home page never loads, the twitter feed doesn't load tweets, etc. Better to actually look at it and see what i am talking about rather than me try to explain it.

Just offhand, couple things to check:
1) Any scripts not Allowed, if so does (Temp-)Allowing *all* scripts help?
2) When the problem(s) happens, do you see anything related in the Browser Console? (Ctrl-Shift-J)
(if you don't know what's related, turn off CSS warnings and post everything else you see)

Console? I have no idea what to do with that thing. Looking over it i see how turn stuff on and off. But there is nothing in it. No errors or warnings - therefore nothing to post.

Wait, so a site with (at least some) JS enabled doesn't work due to NS, yet your console is totally empty of anything? Image

GIve me a moment let me see if I'm able to look into this.

Well i have currently allowed on steelers.com the following;

steelers.com
nfl.com
demdex.net
ajax.googleapis.com
adobetag.com

This is how it has been set up for a very long time and has always worked.

OK this is a surrogate problem (not sure whether a new one is needed or an existing one needs change, no time to properly investigate).

In the meantime, the following permissions appear to get photos working from a clean profile with only NoScript latest development build installed:

Code: Select all

+gstatic.com
+google.com
+googletagservices.com
+googleadservices.com
+nfl.com
+steelers.com
(whether it's a minimal set of permissions, I don't know)

Does it make work the rest of the site for you as well?

No.

When i said photos never appear i meant when you click on photos in the menu, right next to video. The photos on the home page all work fine.

Oops, we collided posting - twice.
So AFAICT the change is on their end, not a NoScript change (although a NS change is needed, you should never have to Allow googletagservices... & maybe not either googleadservices from the looks of what I'm seeing).

So I copied & pasted the site location from your OP, what I saw was a strip of Videos & a strip of Photos (both horizontal), I picked a random photo & clicked on it, it didn't work (site completely black) until the sites listed above were Allowed for me. Are you getting a totally different looking site or was I looking at totally the wrong part of the site? :?

Right - i never allow that google stuff -i know it doesn't matter. Heck i can forbid steelers.com and nfl.com too and the photos on most of the website will show up. I am talking about if you click on photos in the menu - and btw the menu doesn't function either, it has a drop down element to it that isn't loading when you hover your cursor.

You should be seeing the exact same thing i am. I tried it on a fresh clean install on my tablet just last week and it looks the same on both my tablet and my pc. Noscript was the first addon i installed.

None of the google stuff is allowed except ajax.googleapis.com - it doesn't matter - if i allow them all it still won't work - i have tried it over and over.

Well i take that back - going in and actually manuall clicking on allow googletag and googlead services popped up a new one - googlesyndication - wich when i allowed it returned the website to working order....ugh. Never had to allow all that crap before - dunno why i have to do it now. But it works. Hmmph. Not sure i like it but oh well.

For some reason just allowing all or doing temporary wasn't working. Heck i even tried disabling noscript and it still wouldn't work after restarting. Not sure what the heck. It works now so i don't care to investigate any further lol.

Anyway - Thanks for your help.
