intermittent ff crashes on temp allow flash @ youtube

Post by guest-2218 »

Hi!

Firefox crashes here and there when temp allowing flash in youtube. First I temp allow youtube and ytimg or whatever those two are, and then the page reloads and I allow flash. I think it crashes just as I'm allowing the flash, or possibly just clicking on the menu to allow flash. It's hard to tell as it all happens so quickly. The crash reporter shows and I send that off.

I think this started happening when I installed the version of Firefox which does something different with plugins (a month or more ago.) I think I read it disallows or checks to make sure plugin is current version before allowing a plug in to work. I may have that all wrong, but I do recall that it was after that, that these intermittent crashes occurred in Firefox at youtube. I was thinking perhaps the timing of the two events..Firefox checking for whatever it checks for and me enabling flash... causes the crashes?

I really don't know of course what causes the crashes, but decided to post here about it, in case it does have to do with noscript.

If you need to see the crash reports, just let me know how to show them.

I have ff 18.01, Flash 11.5.502.146

Thank you!

Have you submitted the crash reports?
What are their URLs?

If you disable NoScript, & enable FF's click-to-play option, do you also get the crash?
(Kind of hard to determine on an intermittent crash.)

Hi and thanks for writing!

Here are the last six reports.

http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... 70d2130205
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... a072130205
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... 6412130124

http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... 5dd2130114
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... f1d2130113

How would I enable the click to play option? I probably won't do it (disable ns and enable click to play) as like you said the errors are intermittent, but I would like to see where that option is. I had tried understanding the reports but it's way over my head. There are probably a few more related to the firefox crashing.

Thank you for having a look at these and for your help.

Appears your Flash is 11_5_502_110 rather then _146 ?

Running Google Toolbar?

I have 11.5.502.146. I always update flash the day the new version is out when possible, and I always check at adobe site to verify which version I have. I just did that again, and it verifies is 146.

Oops..

No I don't have google toolbar. Flash is the only plug in and in addons I have request policy, noscript, WOT, and adblock plus.

I see in the crash report from today that it shows flash ver ...110. I don't know how that can be. I just put a video on just now and opened task manager and it shows 2 lines of flashplayerplugin 11.5.502.146. I wonder why the crash report shows otherwise, as that was from earlier today. hmm

Where exactly do you see the version? AFAIK, (I can test it right now) in the case of Firefox plugins (not IE!) you'll see a plugin-container.exe process where you would need more advanced tools to see what plugin library is loaded.

It depends on the OS (& even OS version) what you may or may not see.

Win7:

Hi. I had seen this post and tried to figure out what was going on. There is some sort of bug in the about:crashes which when clicking on older reports changes the date to the date I click on it. So it appears to be a current report when it is from months back.

That's why version 11.5.502.110 was showing as the flash version. The way I realized this was it showed the firefox version which was also old.

I just now clicked on an October 2012 report to view it, and it showed the correct October date properly, but when I clicked it again, it now shows that the date of the report is today. It also shows at the top of the list.

So at the time of writing this thread i did have version .146 flash. With the google toolbar mention; that is shown in that report as solved (but not for me), showed solved for Macs with google toolbar. I have firefox and no toolbars.

Once a crash report date changes, there is no way to know what the actual date of the crash report was apparently.

All the above that I am writing now, is in response to the above post.

It took me so long to figure out what was going on, so I had never came back to this thread.

I saw the current posts and so decided to post about how the reports can show a current date when in actuality is a very old report.

I haven't had any crashes in youtube since the original post. I just thought I'd write and explain as above.

Thank you!
