Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update

Post by Guest »

I didn't try the Safe Mode/restart option to get the icon back. But it's back. This may be a clue to what's happening or maybe not.

Before I started the troubleshooting specification page shows:

Version 56.0.1
Extensions
Name Version Enabled ID
Adblock Plus 2.9.1 true {d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d}
NoScript 5.1.2 true {73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}
Safe Browsing Version 4 (temporary add-on) 1.0.0 true sbv4-gradual-rollout@mozilla.com

I went to https://noscript.net/getit and clicked on the big green INSTALL button.
After the install the release notes page showed up. The odd thing is it told me I was using an old version, i.e. 5.1.1.
That's not what it showed me on the specification page. SEE ABOVE.

I closed FIrefox and restarted it. Still no noscript icon.

This is from the release notes page:
V. 5.1.2 - Secure all those processes!

Looks like you are running an older version (5.1.1), probably because latest version is not published on addons.mozilla.org yet.
You are strongly encouraged to
install latest stable version (5.1.2)

I did the install again from the release notes page. I should have closed Firefox and restarted it to see if that install fixed something, but I didn't. Instead I did a restart of the computer.

The Noscript Icon is back but I don't know whether it was after the install or the computer restart.

Click the [Continue in Safe Mode] button
Restart the browser again normally: NoScript UI should be back now :)

I fixed this by uninstalling completely the add on (remove all settings) and then reinstalling it.

I simply reinstalled it because the fix didn't work for me.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience, we're trying to figure out what exactly is happening and how to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Furthermore, if you're extra adventurous, please install 5.1.2rc8 from https://noscript.net/getit#devel, then restart the browser, then install 5.1.2 (stable) over it to provide us with some indication on what to expect on next update.

Thank you join2 It works ! Do you know when will we have a compatible (no "obsolète") version with the new Firefox comming please ?

I tried adding NoScript as administrator and through my normal limited user account. In both cases the NoScript button reappears but disappears after a browser restart. But the following seemed to work for me.

As normal user:

Go to Tools-->Add-ons
Click Get Add-ons
Scroll to bottom and click "See more Add-ons"
In the search box search for NoScript and re-add it to your browser.
Permanently allow mozilla.net and mozilla.org in NoScript (.org was added already on mine, .net had not been)
Restart Firefox to confirm NoScript button is still there

Might be a fluke, hope it is a data point.

I confirm the "restart without extensions + restart with extensions" sequence worked.
Ubuntu 16.04LTS + FF 56 + NS 5.1.2

Before that, I tried to reinstall NS which momentarily solved the problem until I restarted FF

And me, too .... :o :(

NoScript icon has disappeared (FF 56.0 and Ubuntu 16.04). My offhanded solution as followed:

- deinstall NoScript
- delete all NoScript entrys in prefs.js
- reinstall NoScript

Not very nice, because I lost my customization, but is has worked!

Assume you are using latest FF 56.0. and the icon missing complete in task/customize !!
See my first post and the answers by therube or the admin reply.
Just follow one of these instructions!
My friends like myself did and it works.
Do not understand what all these nonsens posts are about?

Late to the party but haven't seen this solution yet. This worked for me (FF 55.0.2/Ubuntu):

about:config
extensions.legacy.enabled - was true (already customized), set to false
cancel out of noscript removal warning
close browser
start browser
about:config
extensions.legacy.enabled - set to false
now all legacy add-ons icons disappear
close browser
start browser
about:config
extensions.legacy.enabled - set to true
extensions.legacy.exceptions - remove all entries (e.g. mozilla cliqz)

magic, everything is back to normal...

Note on 57.0b8 developer edition, the Noscript icon is still visible...

Upgraded to the newest version of Mozilla Firefox and upgraded to the newest version of NoScript

On both eBay and PayPal some buttons do not work, for example, you can no longer logout.

The NoScript message that usually appears at the bottom of the page while on eBay and PayPal is not there.

If you download NoScript again and the NoScript message appears at the bottom of the page if you click on it and select the option to turn off NoScript globally (dangerous) everything works fine on eBay and PayPal.
