[RESOLVED] No longer can download from YouTube

Postby ivand87 » Mon Mar 15, 2010 3:43 am

I can't download from YouTube anymore... I get the URL on the icon at the status bar, but then FlashGet no longer can download it. I've never looked at the URLs before but it seems they added some security to prevent people from downloading? I don't know. This is lame. On top of their horrible servers being so slow, now I can't download the videos... :x

URL: any video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w - for example

Yeah, exactly. Any video from YouTube. No longer working. Really annoying. Someone get around this security thing please. We should be allowed to pull the video from any site. The majority of users aren't interested in downloading the videos. So why does YouTube bother adding this security crap in the first place?

Could you check if turning the flashgot.forceNameHack about:config preference to false helps?
If not, could you try a different download manager, e.g. Orbit Downloader or FDM?

Yes Youtube answer that download Forbidden. But in Firefox i can see this video, and don't have any filter/firewall. I'm think problem in cookies. I try to clean install firefox + FlashGot + FlashGet on WindowXP, and it work perfectly! I try to clear all cookies and disable all extension/plugins - but it don't help! Then I'm create new profile, using firefox profile manager, and install FlashGot to it. But even this don't help! And things even more strange - inside FlashGet log cookies line present my Nickname on yotube. Even after I'm create new Firefox profile!!!

It seems, like FlashGot cache Cookies somewhere, and when youtube change it's cookies format, FlashGot continue sent old ones. Yotubee can't accept old cookies and forbid download. Someone know where FlashGot can temporary store cookies? May be there some bug what FlashGot can't clear this storage on WIndows7. I'm try to create new Firefox profile and change download manager - both way don't help. And i'm compare therube log with my - the cookies line very different.

Please notice that FlashGet takes cookies from Internet Explorer's cookie repository, hence FlashGot needs to merge those from Firefox with those from IE.
Try to clear cookies in IE and check if it helps.

Yes it's help! BIg thank! Now FDM and FlashGet download video perfectly! This workaround make my crazy. May be add this to faq?

May you answer to one question - name of download manager supported by FlashGot, and what can import cookies directly?

P.S. I read in faq what FlashGot don't have Unicode support, to save windows 98 compatibility. I think windows 98 now complete dead. All right, not unicode mean not unicode. May i try to add not completely Unicode support, bu tat lest different code page compatibility (not 1252). I think it can work well on windows 98 also.

I noticed this, too. I found a way to download, though, by using adblock plus to detect the .flv file from http://*.c.youtube.com (just search "c.youtube"), then opening that url in a new tab, and downloading with firefox's built in download manager.

I think I should point out that this problem correlates with youtube insisting on making viewers update their flash, and also that they are now offering another level of high definition viewing. Some videos go up to a revolution of 1080p now. Which means, you'd be downloading a HUGE file.

It's not FlashGot's fault. That movie is being served as a crypted RTMP stream, which no "legal" downloader supports yet.
