YouTube download doesn't start if I close the window.

The download starts some time after clicking on the file\version of the video; which results in the fact that if I close the window of the video - before the download starts - the download doesn't start.
Who knows how many videos I've missed before discovering this problem.
I'm not sure if in the past it didn't exist.
Anyway - is there a possibility to have the download start even if I close the window?

What download manager?
Why is there an appreciable delay before the video starts downloading (such that you're able to close the window before the download starts)?

I would think that if you have the download link, it will still be valid - even if you close the window - until the link itself goes stale.

I don't know why there's a delay; that's why I'm asking here.
I just checked the download-manager; it was cURL; and I changed it to the default browser's (FireFox).
It seems to have fixed it.
