Youtube bug - two separate streams for audio and video

Post by AnotherYoutubeBug »

- Vista
- Firefox 25.0.1
- Name: FlashGot 1.5.5.95

I use flashgot with downthemall. I also use a gm script + downthemall.

===

Example: Panorama Britain's Secret Terror Force

The audio and video isn't together. Instead - there are two streams:

- a 54M mp4 audio stream
- a 153M mp4 video stream.

YouTube Center for Greasemonkey grabs the video (with audio) just fine. This url...

Code: Select all

i have seen this very thing over here aswell !!
it finally accepts the 1080p ones BUT all the audio streams are missing !
they are offered in the list as an m4a file and they got the audio stream for these files
there are also 2!! 720p mp4 video's provided one is working like before the update to help make 1080p work again
one of these 720 mp4's has both audio AND video
the other one just like the 1080p only has a video codec in it!!

so i here by confirm the mentioned bug!
-Win 7 64bit ultimate
-firefox 25.0.1
-flashgot V. 1.5.5.95

i checked it today for my self! multiple times and all no luck, except for the "before the update" available streams, they are the only ones to work with both audio AND video.

hope u guys can help it by maybe merging .. just an idea (if all else fails)

This is by design, because Youtube itself is serving the streams separately.
You can find them under the "DASH" submenu in the "Available Formats" menu (right clicking the FlashGot Media icon).
A future FlashGot version (not sure about the timeline yet) will offer you to download a FlashGot-private static copy of ffmeg and use it on the fly to merge this kind of files. In the meanwhile you can learn how to use ffmpeg or one of its graphical front-end to demux them manually.

Giorgio, thanks for the speedy reply even on ur day off :)

i hope to find out how to really stitch them together.. till that time i will patiently but eagerly be awaiting a newer version.
hope that the functionality to stitch stuff together will be introduced as u hinted ;) (with manual selection overide option) so u can have like mp4 video codec in h264 and stitch it with a audio file with the best quality or right compatibility.. like best audio from the 1080p video's(256kbit stereo 44kHz) for a 720p video's(normally a 192kbit stereo 44kHz) or 480p video's(normally a 128kbit stereo 44kHz) video or something similar..

BUT in a way u also gave us something very cool! :) u gave us a way to only download audio wich is very easily converted to mp3 or ogg without the amount of conversion time (and downloaded MB's or even up to GB's) u have with video's.. so thats a cool side product at the moment :D

hope u can find a way to make it work, but i have absolute confidence in that.

Yes, me too, I used to be able to download video with the audio. But since 28 Nov, it separates them and I cannot play the video....
I use

Ubuntu R. Ringtail 13.04
Firefox 25.0
Flashgot 1.5.5.95

Please make it work again............. Image

Ciao.

What I've noticed is that the version 1.5.5.95 relatively Youtube to see the video at 1080p version. Mp4 but not download (or not playable audio - the video is flawless).
He sees the audio file. Mp4 but are defined as small or medium (I have no idea how they relate to the relevant video that still would not be HD).
I have not tried to download a 720p version 1.5.5.95 and then I do not know if these are playable on audio.
I do not know if it is a limit on the program or if those youtube have made sure that the 1080p videos are somehow "protected".
[Version 1.5.5.94 did not see the 1080p version was downloaded while the 720p format. Mp4 totally reproducible]
Sin.
I returned to this latest version ... waiting for a more functional: a better video at 720p with a 1080p audio mute.

I meant:
my impression is that version 1.5.5.95 on Youtube can see the HD video 1080p downloadable as .mp4 file without - or not playable - audio, the video instead works properly.
It also "sees" audio files as .mp4 but they are defined as "small" or "medium" (don't know what it means and have no idea how to relate them to their relevant video - that I suppose would not be HD).
I have not tried to download a 720p resolution video with version 1.5.5.95 so I can't tell if there's a playable audio or not.
I do not know if it is a limit of the program or if youtube guys have found a way in order "to protect" someway the 1080p version of videos - this is the point.
[Version 1.5.5.94 cannot see the 1080p version of videos while the 720p version as format .mp4 is totally reproducible]
I returned to this latest version ... waiting for a more functional release of flashgot (or the good heart of youtube :-)): meantime i can say it's better a 720p video with audio than a 1080p mute.

(DASH & otherwise)
All audio should play, separately.
All video should play separately.

(DASH)
All audio & video when muxed together should play, both audio & video.

Whether there is a corresponding "sized" audio of a particular video, or vice-versa I wouldn't now. Some seem to thing there should be, but...?

In order to play or otherwise work with audio/video you likely will need current players/codecs.

This neat little tool will put them back together for you.

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/My-MP4Box-GUI

1. use flashgot to download the streams from Youtube
2. rename the files to get rid of the special characters
3. open the tool
4. move the video file first into the tool
5. move the audio file
6. click mux
7. a new file should appear with the addition of "muxed" in the title

I think the question still floating around is that the DASH audio lists Small, Medium and Large, but the videos are Small, Medium, Large, HD720 and HD1080. It sort of suggests two top audio tracks aren't being seen.

I don't believe so. Audio tracks at their top quality are still orders of magnitudes smaller than video tracks, hence it makes sense for audio options to be more narrow than video ones.

In the meantime, this Firefox add-on does a perfect job of downloading the HD video & audio and merging the two streams.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... audio-dow/

But unlike FlashGot, you need watch the video on the Youtube page. The difference of quality between 720p to 1080p is striking, especially with tutorial videos. I like FlashGot very much (and NS). It will be nice when downloading HD videos (over 720p) will be made easy.
