What is extensions.nsa.wanIp.checkURL for?

The value is https://secure.informaction.com/ipecho/, so obviously it is to get the user's IP. But what is this information used for?

Basically: so that ABE can protect your router, which might be listening on that IP. By knowing the address, ABE can forbid requests aimed at it.
